    1.CALCULATION OF MATERIALS PER 10 cu m. VOLUME OF BRICK

    METRIC BRICKS No. of metric brick having size with mortar 10 cm x 10 cm x 20 cm

    = 10 = 5000 nos.

    0.1 x 0.1 x 0.2

    The size of one metric brick without mortar is 9 cm x 9 cm x 19 cm

    Therefore mortar required per 10 c.m. = 10-(5000 x .09 x .09 x .19) = 2.3 cu m.

    Due to frog filling, brick bonding courses and wastage, etc. increase this quantity by 15%therefore, volume of wet mortar = 2.3 + 2 .3 x .15 = 2.64 cu m

    when dry, increase this quantity by 1/3 = 2.64 + 2.64 x 1/3 = 3.5 cu m

    In case of lime mortar, the above quantity., 3.5 cu m. reaches upto 4.0 cu m. .Such increase

    may be justifies considering the void in surkhi is more, joints are generally thicker and

    additionally, less care is observer towards wastage.

    With second class bricks, the quantity of cement mortar of 4.0 cu m. and lime mortar of 4.2

    cu m. are required according to the shape and size of second class bricks.

    TRADITIONAL BRICKS

    No. of traditional bricks having size with mortar 25.4 cm x 12.7 cm x 7.6 cm =

    10 = 4079 nos. , say, 4100 nos.

    0.254 x 0.127 x 0.076

    With this traditional size of bricks, joints are less, and therefore lesser amount of mortarshould be required. But due to larger size of frog and wider area of a brick such variation

    may be minimized.

    TRADITIONAL BRICKS

    No. of traditional bricks having size with mortar 22.9 cm x 11.4 cm x 7.6 cm =

    10 = 5041 nos. , say, 5000 nos. (due to thi

    0.229 x 0.114 x 0.076

    The no. of bricks being same to that of metic brick and the quantity of mortar is also

    same.

    6.HALF BRICK i.e10 CM BRICK WALL IN CEMENT MORTAR (1:3)WITH PLAIN ARCHES

    WITH H.B NETTING IN EVERY THIRD LAYER(GROUND FLOOR)

    Consider first 10 c.m.

    Calculation of materials: Bricks(metric) = 100 = 5000 nos..10 x .20

    Volume of mortar35% to the volume of work = 100 x .10 x .35 = 3.5 cu m. Due to half

    brickwork, volume of mortar becomes 10% less than 3.5 cu m. = 3.5 0.35 = 3.15 cu m.

    Therefore, cement = 3.15 / 4 = 0.79 cu m

    sand = .79 x 3 = 2.37 cu m.

    Wire netting for every third layer i.e, 30 cm intervals (considering a wall 10m length x

    10m height) = 10 x 10 / .30 = 334 rm, with 10 cm wide area of netting =

    334 x .10 = 33.4 sq m.
