Present

Situation

Need of Indian

Railways

Options

Solutions

• 100% electrified rail network in next two-three years

• 10,500 Crore annual savings after railway goes full electric

• > 30,000 kms to be electrified – project cost to be 30-35K Crores.

• Emphasis on Diesel

• Annual Savings to the tune of INR 10,500 crores envisaged

• Indian Railways could borrow from ADB or equivalent.

• Funds to be made available through LIC , IRFC and internal funding

• Turnkey contract from large EPC players - ongoing

• Larger contract size of 1500-2000 km

• Global players to bring in new methods, Design, mechanized

installation to increase the pace of electrification rapidly.

Sicat plattform

Contact line systems for every task – tailored based on requirements

DC ACRunning speedApart from economy, longevity and

consistently high quality are the key features

of the Sicat contact line systems.

They permit a high running quality, long

service live, low LCC and comply with both

national and international standards.

Siemens – with more than 138 years

experience electrical railways - is releasing

an adjusted OCL system for projects based

on Sicat plattform solution. Therefore all

requirements could be met (e.g. PAN,

environment, operational & RAMS

requirements, …).

What may be considered for fast track Rail

Electrification e.g. Modular Aluminum Cantilevers?

Page 7 Mobility Division

Reasons to adopt….Modular Cantilever

❑ Less number of components, clear interfaces, faster installation & adjustments, lower maintenance

& high availability

LCC Cost optimizations in Design, Implementation and

construction of OCL

Lever for Optimization (should be

possible within tender specification!)

⮚ Increase of Span Length

⮚ Increase of Tensioning Length

⮚ System optimization based on TPS network

studies

⮚ Innovative products and components

⮚ Adapt products which require minimum /

zero modification during further upgrade to

high speed

⮚ Digitalization

IR preparedness for Mainline RE // Key concerns

- Funds are available and sanctioned.

- Availability of skilled manpower ?

- Availability of electric locomotives?

- Lack of capacity for production from approved RDSO/ CORE suppliers.

- EPC tenders don’t allow for design flexibility.

- No lever for Design optimization is provided.

- Timelines for execution is limited considering the powerbock activities , especially in hilly terrain.
