Preface I will be racing a team during 2021 but will not be breeding in 2021 nor racing in 2022. Therefore I have decided to sell my stock birds.

I am keeping some of the older stock birds that were special to me and deserve to spend their remaining days in my loft. All pigeons have an opening bid of $100 and all birds must be sold. All the stock were successfully breeding during last season but no guarantees can be given.

My family of racing pigeons have provided me with many enjoyable and successful years of pigeon racing. I have been successful at all levels from club racing to Section and Open Fed and even on the International scene. I have won short, middle and long-distance events and clocked several birds during the night to win as well. I won the QRPF Open Fed Championship for the first time in 2014 after being close several times prior. In 2015 I missed several races due to an operation and finished 4th before again winning the Fed Championship in 2016, 2017 and 2018, three years in a row from three different directions, something that had never been achieved before. I started racing pigeons with QHS in partnership with my father as a 16-year-old in 1965. It only lasted for two years but pigeons were always in the back of my mind and I recommenced again with QHS in 1984, winning my first race the same year. I won my first QRPF Open Fed race in 1987 when I clocked 11288 QPF 86 at 8pm from Cobar 520 miles. A little of this blood remains in the loft today.

In the 1990's imported pigeons reached our shores and changed our racing dramatically. Most of my on-the-day racing pigeons are now down off these imports, particularly the Staf van Reets & Muelemans. But also Janssens, I purchased an in-bred Janssen cock 1626 BALCO 90 and mated him with a Balfe BBH 10111 QPF 79 that was a daughter of Sloan’s 1302 and had bred a Goulburn 500 mile Fed winner for R Beetham. From this mating came three very good pigeons, 175, 176 & 182 QHS 91. All bred me winners but 175 was the best racer and the best breeder of winners, however, 176 turned out to be the best at breeding stock birds. I mated 176 with 55591 SA 91, a red Janssen hen from Rob Wilson and bred 555 QHS 98 BBWF hen, this hen raced for 3 years and was clocked 10 times for many wins and places, she flew 650 miles as a yearling and won champion hen twice in a local pigeon shows. I was reluctant to stock her because she was a white flight and at that time I was trying to avoid pied.

In 1992 we travelled to Thailand to compete in an international race. I was fortunate enough to win 5th place International with one of my Dordins, which were my best birds at that time and collected $10,000 for the win. Unfortunately, I no longer have the Dordins, I say, unfortunately, because I mistakenly allowed that line to die out, a lesson learnt! While in Thailand I met Syd & Lesley Gard and a lifetime friendship developed from there. In 1999 while visiting Syd & Lesley in Sydney, a smoky Blue Bar WF cock among his youngsters took my eye. Syd told me he had a youngster for me to take back and then proceeded to catch the very youngster that I had been admiring. This young cock, bred from a straight Mueleman cock mated with Staf van Reet hen moulted into a magnificent pencil white flight and when I mated him with 555, the white flight hen that I finally stocked in 2002, they clicked straight away, in fact, they bred me 5 winners in their first year together, and today most, if not all my best day birds contain the blood of this pair. These two pigeons have bred top class winners in every generation and are my foundation pair. I have brought more Staf Van Reets into the family and these have been very successful but by far the best cross I have brought into my family have been the Gaby Vandenabeele's. Again it was Syd who first sent me a pair of hens bred by Jack Vanderlinden from his imported Keon Minderhoud Vandenabeele’s. One of these hens turned out to be a terrific breeder and along with other Vandenabeele’s’ from Shaun Elliott have really lifted the family’s performance. No matter what cross I brought into the family I always looked to breed back to the foundation pair, my best pigeons usually have the foundation pair on both sides of their pedigree.

Lot 58 – Four Compartment Breeding Unit Each pen in the unit is 750mm wide x 850mm deep x 710mm high, has been used to breed both finches and pigeons in the past.
