THE CHURCH'S ANCIENT PRAYER

Last Sunday we instituted the celebration of Sun-day Evening Prayer in St. Rita's Chapel. About 10 at-tended, some with no experience, others with some, all who found this ancient form of worship most enrich-ing. We will continue Sunday Evening Prayer each Sunday evening in St. Rita's Chapel at 6:15pm.

All are welcome. We use a simple format. All aspects of Evening Prayer are in a single, continuous format.

Have you wished you could make a huge difference in someone’s life and bring comfort? Could you spend a few hours a month visiting with someone who longs for companionship? Beacon Hospice is looking for volunteers to help provide companionship to people receiving end of life care. Beacon will train you to help others find comfort in their last days. Say NO to Physician Assisted Suicide

The Massachusetts State Legislature is considering passing into law two deeply troubling bills this session which would legalize Physician Assisted Suicide. The bills, House 2381 and Senate 1384, are identical in text and titled “An Act relative to end of life options”. “The Catholic Bishops of Massachusetts stand unit-ed I our strong opposition to Physician Assisted Sui-cide. It is an affront to life and a dangerous precedent for determining end of life issues. Physicians are trained to care for the ill, not to hasten death.” Here are some facts to consider: 1) The bills would allow a physician to provide a

deadly drug mixture to an individual diagnosed with less than 6 months to live that, when con-sumed, would cause death.

2) Vulnerable individuals (who may be depressed or fear “being a burden” may be subject to undue in-fluence by others to take the drug, especially if there is a financial benefit as an incentive.

3) The primary focus of elected officials should be dedicated to legislation providing quality health care, mental health care and palliative care to the sick and dying—particularly in the underserved, poor and minority communities that suffer the most at the time of need.

Anointing of the Sick is held on the third Sunday (and previous Saturday) of each month, immediately following all Saturday vigil and Sunday Masses.
