ImpositionscanbecompletelysetupinQuite Hot Imposing,butitmaybehardertovisualisetheresultswhenthisisdone.

Ineithercase,animpositionisaseriesofoneormorecommands.Forexample,youmightshufflethepagesofadocumentintotheorderrequired(alsorotatingsomeofthem),usingtheShuffle Pagescommand.ThenyoumightusetheN-Up Pagesfunctiontoarrangethesepagesontosheets.Morecomplicatedimpositionsmightadd page numbers, shift pagestoallowforbinding(“creep”),orinsertacoverpageusingthe“background”feature.

Hot Folder Concepts

Quite Hot Imposing letsyouworkwithhotfolders,alsocalledwatchedfolders.Thesearefoundinmanyproducts,buttheremaybedifferencesinQuite Hot Imposing,soitisworthcheckingthissectionevenifyouarefamiliarwithotherproducts.

Quite Hot Imposingallowsyoutosetupmultiplehotfolders.Infact,eachsetup(calledaqueue)hasfourdifferentfolders:

Theinfolder:PDFfilestobeprocessedareputintothisfolder.Quite Hot Imposingneverputsfilesintohere,butwilltakethemout.

Theout folder:theresultingfile,afterdoingthework,isputhere.Thisistypicallyanimposedfile,suchasabookletlayout.Thenamewillbethesameastheoriginalfile.

Thedonefolder:theoriginalfileismovedtohere,unchanged.ThisisdonesothatQuite Hot Imposingdoesnotdestroyanyfiles.Thefilewillonlybemovedtodonewhenprocessingissuccessful

Theerrorfolder:ifafilecannotbeprocessed,anddoesn’tmakeafiletoputinout,wehavetodosomethingwithit,ratherthanjustleaveitintheinfolder.Otherwise,itwouldbeprocessedagainrightaway!Sofileswhichfailaremovedtoerror.

Important Points in Choosing Hot FoldersNetwork Use.

Anyhotfoldercanbeonanetworkdrive.However,werecommendyouconsiderusingalocaldriveinstead,forthefollowingreasons.

�.Thehotfolderprocesscanfailorhangiftheservercontainingthefolderisunavailable.Theriskincreasesifmultiplehotfoldersondifferentserversareused.

2.OntheMacintosh,youwillneedtomakesurethatthehotfoldersaremountedbeforestartingQuite Hot Imposing;similarlyonWindowsifdrivelettersareusedratherthanmachinenames.OntheMacintosh,usingthesamesharenamefromdifferentcomputerswillcauseconfusion,asMacOSXwillchangethedisknamesasseenbyQuite Hot Imposing.

3.Watchingafolderonthenetworkmaygeneratealotofextranetworktraffic,sincetheservermustbeaskedconstantlyiftherearenewfiles.Consultyournetworkadministratorabouttheeffectthismayhave.

4.Writingoutputfilestothenetworkmaybemuchslowerthanwritingtolocaldisks.

5.CareneedstobetakentomakesurethattheuserwhorunsQuite Hot Imposingisabletowrite,renameanddeletefilesinthesharedfolders.

In, Done and Error on the same disk. Itisimportanttousethesamedisk(ornetworkshare)forthein,doneanderrorfoldersforasinglequeue.Thisallowstheinputfiletobequicklymovedfromintodoneonsuccessorfromintoerroronfailure.Tryingtosettheseupondifferentdisksmayfail.

Unique In Folders. Youmustnotusethesameinfolderfordifferentactivequeues.Thefoldersworkindependently,andwouldbothtrytoprocessthefileatthesametime,butonlyonewouldwin.Ifyoudosetupseveralqueueswiththesameinfolder,thesoftwarewillautomaticallymakesureonlyoneisactiveatatime.Ifyouwanttodothis,itmaybehelpfultosetthePreferencesoptionShow enable/disablecheckboxforeachqueue,toallowqueuestobeturnedonandoffmorequickly.Itispossible,andreasonable,touseasinglefolderastheoutfolderforseveralqueues.

LimitationsLicense

Thenormalsoftwarelicenseonlyallowsthesoftwaretorunononecomputer,anddoesnotallowittoprocessworkfromothersitesorfromtheinternet,ortobepartofaprocesstoautomaticallysendimposedfilesoffsite.

Single PDF File OutputQuite Hot ImposingalwaysprocessesasinglePDFfiletomakeanewPDFfile.ThereisnomethodtocombineseparatePDFfilesintoabook,orpairofpages.

TheonlytypeoffileacceptedinaninfolderisaPDFfile.Quite Hot Imposing doesnotconvertanyotherkindoffiletoPDF.

Setting up Quite Hot Imposing Quite Hot Imposingallowsyoutosetupmanydifferentqueues,eachwithitsownsetoffourfolders(in,out,doneanderror)andeachofwhichmayperformadifferentimposition.Youcanalsoturnoffparticularfolderstemporarily.

ToaddanewhotfolderyoucanclicktheAdd button(ifshown)oruseControl > Add Hot Folder.EachhotfolderyouaddwillappearasalineinthemainQuite Hot Imposing window.

Tochangethesettingsforahotfolder,ortoremoveone,clicktheSetup buttonforthatfolder.Ineithercase,aseriesofthreedialogswillappear,tochoosethehotfolder,toselecttheimposition,andthentosetotheroptions.

Choosing Hot FoldersInthisdialog,youchoosethefourfolderstobeused(in,out,doneanderror)forasinglequeue.

ThequickestwaytosetupthefourfoldersneededistoclicktheExpress Setupbutton.Selectafolder(theoptiontomakeanewfolderisavailable),andfournewfolderswillbecreatedinsidethatfolder,calledin,out,doneanderror.Thesefourfolderswillbeshowninthedialog,andcanbeseparatelychangedifrequired(butchangingthemwillnotdeleteanyfoldersthatwerecreated;thecreatedfolderswilljustbeignored).

Youcanalsoclickthebrowsebuttontosetupfoldersindividually.

Whenthefourfoldersareselected,click Next.

Selecting the ImpositionOnthisdialog,youdecidewhatimpositionistobedoneusingthehotfoldersyoujustselected.Youcaneitheruseacontrolfile,oruseanamedsequencesetupwiththeQuiteImposingPlusplug-in.Onceyouhavemadeyourselection,click Next.

Selecting a Sequence stored in Quite Imposing Plus

Automationsequenceshaveacategoryandanameofyourchoice.Thedefaultcategoryisjust“Automation sequences”,butyoucancreatemorecategoriestoorganiseyourwork.

Normallythisdialogisjustusedtoselectanexistingsequence.Butyouhavefullcontrolofcreatingandeditingsequencestoo,justasintheQuiteImposingPlusplug-in.Optionsinclude

Other Setup Options

Thefinalsetupdialogforaqueueallowsyoutoselectfurtheroptions.

Thedescriptionofthequeue.Thiswillbeshownonthemainwindow.Thedescriptionwillbefilledinfromthenameofasetupfileorstoredsequence,butyoucansetittosomethingthatmakesmoresensetotheoperatorofthesoftware

The“enabled”switch.Ifyouswitchthisoff,thequeuesettingswillberemembered,andthequeuewillstillbeshownonscreen,butitwillnotacceptanywork.Ifaqueueisnotenableditwillhaveadifferentsymbolonscreen.

The“waittime”allowsyoutowaitlongerforaPDFfiletobeready.Thisdefaultsto0seconds.Ifyousetitforlonger,thenQuiteHotImposingwillignoreafileuntilitseesthatthefilehasnotbeenwrittenforthatnumberofseconds.ThismaybeusefulifanotherprogramiscreatingfilesintheInfolder,anddoesnotdothisallinonestep.

TheAdvancedbuttonallowsyoutosetspecialoptionsasmaybeadvosedbyQuiteSoftware.Therearenooptionsfornormaluse.

Afteryouclick Finish,thehotfolderisreadyforprocessing.

Deleting or Pausing a QueueYoucandeleteaqueuebyclickingtheSetupbuttonnexttothequeuedescription.A Deletebuttonisshown(thisbuttonisnotshownwhenyoufirstcreateaqueue,onlywhenrunningSetuplater).

Whenaqueueisdeleted,alltheotherqueuesafteritwillberenumbered.Thisshouldberememberedwhenreadingthelog,whichusesqueuenumberstoidentifythem.

Quite Hot Imposingalsowritesalogfile,withallinformationfromthewindow.(Thewindowonlykeepsalimitednumberoflines).Thelogfileactuallycontainsmoreinformation,includingthefullnameofeachfileprocessed,andthedetailsofthesettingswhichwereusedineachcase.

Preferencesareavailabletochoosethenameoflogfiles,andhowlongtheyarekeptbeforebeingoverwritten.Onlyexpertuserswillneedtochangethis.Thedefaultwillproduceafoldercontainonelogfileforeachdayofthemonth,andwhichwillberewritteneachmonth.

Thepreferences dialogalsoallowsyoutoclickanOpenfolderbuttontoviewthelogfilefolderinWindowsExplorerortheMacOSXFinder.

Youcanchoosewhethertohaveanenable/disable check boxforeachqueue.Thisisusefulifqueuesneedtoberegularlyswitchedonandoff,especiallyiftheSetupbuttonisnotshown.
