QUINOA: A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE
WHAT IS IT? Pronounced keen-wah, Quinoa was a
staple of the ancient Incas, who called it the “mother grain”. Quinoa contains more protein than most other grains and is a great option to rice or couscous. It cooks to a light, fluffy texture and as it cooks the external germ which forms a band around each grain spirals out.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
STEP ONE Rinse
grains three times in a strainer with small holes
STEP TWO
Put onto heat
STEP THREE
Add boiling water
STEP FOUR Cover
and let simmer for ten minutes
STEP FIVE Strain excess
water
FINAL PRODUCT
HOW TO EAT? Quinoa can be taken as a replacement rice. Delicious with vegetables, beef, chicken or fish. Can be cooked in chicken or vegetable soup Can also be added into baking, either muffins
