Vegetation appears bright green with burnt areas bright reddish-brown. Active fires appear bright red/ orange because of the heat. The short-wave-infrared sensors mostly see through the smoke, but some smoke can still be seen being blown west across the City of Cape Town. The March 2015 Cape Town fire destroyed over 5 500 hectares of the Western Cape.
