Zakariya SahidHow did you use media technologies in the construction

and research, planning and evaluation stages?

laptop• How I used it: I used my personal laptop to complete majority of the

research and planning aspect of the portfolio. My laptop allowed me to research on the internet on information which I wasn’t sure about for my portfolio, making it a massive benefit for me.• Pros of my laptop: My laptop is very fast in the sense that there

isn't any bugging and is very smooth when working and uploading work onto wix. It was a multifunctional technology which allowed me to do almost anything such as allow me to record a voice over, upload and comment on what I want.• Cons of my laptop: At times my laptop decided to take very long to

post work onto my website but this happened not so often but this is the con I found. The over disadvantages which I came across when using my laptop was that my laptop

Phone cameraHow it was used: I used my phone camera to take images of my location to go under my location picture section, to show that i have visited the locations beforehand and see how the location was and also be aware if it was suitable for filming. I used it also to upload images for the prop section of the planning section for prop list.Pros of Phone camera: The advantages of using my phone camera to take photos was that I can could take images with great quality and also take as many as I want with the abundant memory space on my phone. Another advantage of it was that it was very light and size of the phone was not a problem for me to me to carry and use making it simple and very useful as the size didn’t weigh me down or cause me any problemsCons of phone camera:The drawbacks of using my photo camera was that the quality was good but not as great as the cameras that are used to take photos. This then didn’t give my photos the justice it deserved. My phone camera also kept on shutting its self down saying “camera doesn’t work” which proved to be a problem as I constantly had to reboot my phone which took quite some time, this another con of the phone camera that I used to take photos of the locations.

Mac computer DesktopHow it was used: I used the mac computer to make videos which consisted of me filming myself giving a verbal explanation of certain tasks from the research and planning section. The mac computer gave me many options to complete a variety of tasks for my website.Pros of technology: The smoothness and speed completing the videos on the apple mac allowed me to also edit and crop out aspects which I disliked. Another advantage was the speed of the software of the apple mac which allowed everything to work at quick pace and easily flowed. The mac computer had many functions to allow me to complete my main products such as my Digipak which I used Photoshop to complete, making this a massive benefit and an overall a great multifunctional computer.Cons of technology: The cons of using this technology is that at first it is quite complicated and difficult to grasp. Another con of this is that when editing the footage the exporting process is very long and time consuming which is a big drawback of this technology. With the mac computer being a multifunctional computer with many tools, it would appear that it be difficult to navigate around the macs at the start almost seeming to be an overwhelming experience at first, making it a con on this purpose.

Internet How it was used: I used the internet to research and look into any aspects of the research, planning and evaluation side which in some cases I found it difficult to think of stuff myself. The internet was a useful tool to find many answers and gain even greater understanding on what my teacher tells us about a certain information, which I then go and research on in a greater depth which was what I used the internet.• The pros of the internet is that with the internet being a large surface to

research from I could easily pinpoint what I wanted for my research, planning and evaluation website. Another pro of the internet was that I could use it on almost any platform to complete any research and find unanswered questions such as use on smartphones and with the internet being everywhere this a benefit for me completing my work.

Cons of technology: A disadvantage of the internet being is that being such a huge place to look for answers not all the time did I find answers as sometimes it provided me with irrelevant answers and choices. The internet also at times was effected by what I use it on so If the Wi-Fi connection wasn’t good, then it affected me going onto the internet which then makes this a con.

WixHow it was used: I used wix to complete my research, planning and evaluation section and also my artist website. It allowed me to create a website which I could post my work smoothly. Wix gave me many functions such as it allowed me to use different page designs and other functions to give a better finish to my website.• Pros of technology: The advantage of wix is that firstly it allowed me to write and

upload a lot of information onto my website with images having entry effects and also video uploading being an ease to. Wix also allowed me to make my own blog which allowed me to document and show what I have been doing throughout ,my creation of the website and document each day ,I uploaded information onto my website. Wix allowed me to complete my research and planning easily by giving me many functions to complete the process.• Cons of technology: A drawback of using wix was that I had to constantly save and

publish my work in order for me to not lose my work. With wix not using a auto save and publish option this is a massive drawback on behalf of wix which people will lose work because of this. Another Con of Wix was that at times it proved to be a problem as there was times when the text would just weirdly cover other pages of the website which made it a massive problem when it came to the presentation side of the website.

PowerPoint How it was used: I used it to present some of my website tasks from my planning section of the website. The PowerPoint allowed me to use many engaging aspects to keep the audience interested such as the effects of how the slides enter the screen and also how the text appears to.Pros of technology: The advantages of using PowerPoint was that i could present my work and also add slide effects to make my presentation more engaging and add an exciting element to my work, which engaged and interested my audience whilst watching the presentation. Another pro of the website is that I could add a lot of content but my audience would not be bored by the quantity of the words as the words were broken down in digestible size, which informed in the same manner. the last pro of PowerPoint is that it is easily to use as it doesn’t contain any forms of complex functions which was a really key to presenting my work and also being a benefit to me.Cons of technology :The cons of this was that, PowerPoint didn’t give a mass variety of forms for which I could present my work showing a lack of variety and only giving a few basic things which was good enough.

PreziHow it was used: I used Prezi to present my research and planning information onto Prezi allowing me to add quality backgrounds and make it look fun and interesting with the animation of the pages making it excellent, I used it greatly for my research and planning but it was most effective for my planning side.Pros of using Prezi: Prezi allowed me to include information which included add many fonts, background and also search for relevant images for my presentation on the search option which is directly linked to google. Another pro of Prezi is that it had built into movements from slide to slide moving in a great motion to keep the audience interested and focused onto the presentation and also it was visually brilliant.Cons of using Prezi:A con of Prezi was that it didn't really allow me to include all the information that I wanted to, to the correct level as it limited me to include minimal information ,which in A2 standards isn't good enough making it a con for me. Another problem I picked up was that it was extremely time consuming to use and complete, also the area designated to write or insert images wasn’t enough as it didn’t balance that, making me have to sacrifice either the image or use minimal writing which is not required for my work.

PowToon • How I used PowToon: I used PowToon to complete the first question of my

evaluation. It allowed me to present my work in different forms by using text to pop up in different animations such as a hand writing each letter as it appeared on the screen.• Pros of PowToon: The pros of using PowToon was that first it gave me a

massive platform to allow my work to be shown in the best form possible by using many different animations, characters and images to make it look creative. Another pro of PowToon was that the end product was extreme great showcasing my information not only in a fun and creative way but allowing me to include the level of quantity that I need for my evaluation task.• Cons of using PowToon: the first con of using PowToon was that firstly it

was very difficult to use from a beginners point of view as it included many forms of way to show the work but I found it difficult to grasp at the start making it a downside. Secondly PowToon restricted me to just 16 slides which didn’t give me the freedom of using how many I wanted, making users confined into using minimal slides when in fact they need to use more.

Photoshop• How I used Photoshop: I used Photoshop to complete my digipak which was one of

my three products to produce for my A2 media portfolio. I used it to edit images to add an effect to it and also include different texts to make it look as professional as possible.• Pros of using Photoshop: The first advantage of Photoshop is that I gave me an

abundance of functions to make my product look as professional as possible, if it a great finish to the product and show a great consistency between the website and digipak. Another pro of using Photoshop is the consistency level of the software is as each image you use to edit will show a great standard throughout all the images, hence meaning the consistency being brilliant.• Cons of using Photoshop: the cons which I have experienced whilst using Photoshop

was that with it being a great software and containing many functions, this meant that it will be difficult to grasp with having to learn all the features making it a complicating process of navigating and using the features which suit the work you are doing. Another con of using Photoshop was that it very time consuming to use as you had go through many procedures to finally complete the work like dragging and dropping images, locating the correct image, cutting out what you don’t want, finding the appropriate effect with there many effects this proved to be a con on my behave whilst using Photoshop.

IMovie• How I used IMovie: I used iMovie to refine, edit and cut out sections of me

explaining tasks for my research and planning website. IMovie allowed me to import the footage and easily edit it adding in features to make it work like adding images or other effects to synchronise with the video.• Pros of using IMovie: The advantage of using IMovie was that the software is

extremely easy to use and contains the required functions to make the final product look to a professional level. Another advantage of using IMovie is that the level of consistency shown in the creation of the work proved to be a hit, as the work always showed a consistency in quality. A further pro which I picked up from using IMovie was that the projects created by IMovie automatically saved meaning I didn’t have to go through the hassle of saving every time I made a small tweak to my work was a positive and a benefit to me. Another advantage of using imovie was the fact that I could upload directly to YouTube and other video streaming sites which was a benefit as it saved me the chance to go through other procedures.• Cons of using IMovie: the only con which I picked up on whilst using iMovie was

the fact that the exporting time was a massive issue as it took quite a long time for the videos that I edited on iMovie to export so I could upload to YouTube.
