Our 31st annual Horseradish Festival will be held in uptown Collinsville, Illinois on Main Street for this upcoming year! All things horseradish will be celebrated on June 1st and 2nd!

The Festival includes fun family activities such as the Little Miss Horseradish pageant, root games, and a designated family fun area! More entertainment includes the car show, Bloody Mary contest, Millennium Band on Friday night and Blue Marlin Band on Saturday!

Where else can you learn how to prepare your own horseradish, visit the Family Fun Area or Craft Village, join in any of the classic Horseradish Festival Contests, or just sample the food and listen to the Live music?

Admission, musical entertainment and parking are free. What is horseradish? If you’ve ever had wasabi, shrimp with cocktail sauce, a Bloody Mary, or Arby’s horsey sauce, you’ve had horseradish. Horseradish is a perennial plant of the Brassicaceae family. Horseradish is related to mustard, broccoli, and cabbage, but stands out from those thanks to its heat.

What does Collinsville have to do with horseradish?Collinsville is the horseradish capital of the world. Sixty to eighty (60-80) percent of the world’s horseradish is grown in Collinsville and the surrounding area. Horseradish has been growing in the Metro East since the late 1800s. Why?When glaciers carved out the Mississippi River basin during the ice age, the soil in Collinsville and the surrounding area became enriched with the chemical nutrient potash. Because of that nutrient, horseradish thrives in the soil. Our cold winters also provide the required root dormancy, and long summer make for excellent growing conditions. Tell us about the festival and how it got started. The Collinsville Chamber of Commerce started a quirky event with just the growers and a few other people on April 30, 1988 and it has grown since then. The festival is held annually the first weekend of June in Uptown Collinsville, Illinois, and includes live music, food, crafts, Little Miss Horseradish Festival Pageant, washer tournament, bags tournament, recipe contest, Bloody Mary

Describe your products or services. What do you think makes your business stand out? We offer a wide variety of financial services including but not limited to: Personal & Business checking/savings accounts, online & mobile banking, loans, investments and Tax & Bookkeeping services.

What value have you experienced as a Chamber member? Members try to utilize each other before going outside of the Chamber members for goods & services.

Why did you refer TNT Promotions to join the Chamber? Since TNT Promotions offers a variety of promotional products I thought the Chamber would be a good way to grow his business and help other members that had a need for that type of product.

Cedarhurst Assisted Living and Memory Care1207 Vandalia AvenueCollinsville, IL 62234(618) 343-0800www.cedarhurstcollinsville.comHow long have you done business in Collinsville? And how long have you been doing this type of work? Cedarhurst of Collinsville opened in 2009 as the only assisted living community in Collinsville. As time went on we seen the need for memory care and converted part of our 3rd floor into a memory care neighborhood, several of our residents call it our penthouse suites. Cedarhurst of Collinsville was the very first Cedarhurst ever built and now at the end of 2017 we have 18 locations throughout 3 states, with the plan to add several more communities. Describe your products or services. What do you think makes your business stand out? We offer senior living at its best by providing person centered care. No matter if the senior is just looking for a maintenance free living environment with plenty of great food and things to do, or if they need a higher level of care with some hands on assistance, we can customize a care plan that’s fit for them. What makes us stand out is the fact that our team of caregivers, as well as all other staff have a very high standard in training as well as have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Association to provide top notch care in Alzheimer’s and Dementia. What value have you experienced as a Chamber member? As a chamber member we have access to several networking events, volunteer opportunities and posting jobs on the chamber website. I have been able to connect with several chamber members who have either moved a loved one into Cedarhurst or have referred family and friends to our community. One of the best things about the chamber is the fact that they truly want what’s best for the Collinsville residents and businesses. Why did you refer the Alzheimer's Association to join the Chamber? I referred the Alzheimer’s Association to join the Collinsville Chamber because of the great support they are able to receive by such a large group of chamber members who like to make a difference. I believe we have all been touched in some way by this horrible disease and bringing more knowledge and awareness just helps us find a cure as well as support to the families provided by The Alzheimer’s Association. Them being a non-profit and planning to expand the presence in our area with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s gives us all an opportunity to step up and help either by fundraising, joining the walk or even attending a support group.
