So does your business!

Growing market for hematology controlsMany regulators now require clinical laboratories to conduct quality control (QC) programs, and QC may even be a requirement for reimbursement. In addition, labs themselves increasingly want to offer their clients ‘Quality-controlled hematology results’. Since QC ensures the quality of CBC testing, interest in QC materials and their correct use is on the rise.

It all adds up to a great business opportunity for suppliers to the CBC market and Boule is ready to help you make the most of it. In concrete terms, our new QC materials campaign will help you:

• Boost your sales of Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff to end-user hematology laboratories

• Strengthen your reputation as a reliable and trusted supplier of a Total Quality Concept for CBC testing

No hematology testing system is complete without QC. Neither is your business!

Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff are part of our Total Quality Concept (TQC). You can offer instruments, reagents, QC and service – all from the same supplier. An unbroken chain of know-how in quality hematology measurements. What’s more, Boule is one of few producers in the world of hematology controls.

Big potential for distributor operations

Since CBC is already the world’s most common diagnostic test, the market potential of Boule hematology controls is clear. By focusing extra attention on QC materials, you can increase your after-sales revenues, reduce your running costs, and gain a competitive advantage.

For example, when regulations demand QC as a requirement for reimbursement, quickly introduce testing laboratories to Boule QC products. This immediately generates more sales income. When non-regulated private testing laboratories want a strong USP, supply them with Boule QC products that offer ‘Quality-controlled hematology results’. This increases sales and strengthens customer relationships.

Boule QC materials

What they are Our two key products are Boule Cal (a calibrator) and Boule Con Diff (a control). Both play a vitally important role in hematology system QC, which can be seen as the observation techniques and activities used to fulfill quality requirements. Specifically, this includes calibration (adjusting instruments to eliminate bias) and control (ensuring that instruments are correctly calibrated). The relationship between precision/accuracy and type of error in hematology analyses is outlined below.

Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff help ensure that CBC analyzers perform with the accuracy and precision required to generate reportable blood measurement results.

What they doBoule Cal measures and adjusts systematic error (bias) and helps instruments work more accurately. Boule Con Diff addresses random and systematic errors and indicates if the instrument is stable and precise. Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff thus help blood analyzer users generate reportable measurement results by ensuring that a CBC instrument performs as planned: over its operating range with expected precision and linearity and with biases that remain within a pre-selected or control range.

Tables 1 and 2 highlight their roles and application. Table 3 summarizes the overall user benefits gained by applying Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff in routine QC of hematology testing.

• Accurateandprecise

– no systematic or random error

• Precisebutnotaccurate

– bias indicates systematic error

• Neitheraccuratenorprecise

– bias indicates systematic error and individual deviation can also be seen

Help eliminate human error

Human error – especially entering reference values manually – is one of the most common reasons for QC problems in hematology testing. Since end-users enter all Boule QC reference values via a barcode scanner, issues such as expired control dates and incorrect control ranges are easily avoided. Yet another reason for testing laboratories to adopt a QC program with Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff materials.

End-users enter Boule Cal and Boule Con Diff reference values with a barcode scanner. Safe and simple!

Summary Selling larger quantities of QC materials is a great business opportunity for suppliers to CBC laboratories. What’s more, Boule is ready to help you make the most of this growing market potential for QC.

Table 3. Benefits of applying QC in hematology testing

Applying quality control in hematology testing:

• Addresses and eliminates errors before samples are run

• Ensures that cell counters operate within their set precision and linearity

• Keeps biases within a pre-selected range or control range

• Helps hematology analyzers to give reportable blood measurement results

• Avoids costly, time-consuming re-testing!

Table 2. Boule Con Diff in brief

Function: Addresses random and systematic errors

Example recommendations:

• Every day as a routine QC procedure (frequency should reflect workload)

• At the start and end of a day’s work• When the analyzer is restarted after complete

shut-down• When changing reagents between lots or

within the same manufacturing lot• When a control result is out of the assigned

value range

Table 1. Boule Cal in brief

Function: Measures and adjusts systematic error (bias)

Example recommendations for use:

• When a hematology analyzer is first installed in an end-user lab

• After major preventive maintenance or replacement of critical parts

• After yearly service• After major instrument repair • When results from control materials indicate an

unusual trend or shift of analyzer performance, e.g. baseline drift range

• Boule QC materials help you sell more to existing customers

• Increase after-sales revenue by up to 50%!

Remember, it’s five to ten times more expensive to acquire a new customer then retain an existing one!

QC sales boost your hematology revenues
