CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES WORKSHOP

Equipment Supplier field demonstration and

training (milling, paving and rolling techniques)

Ashghal Quality & Safety Department and ANAS S.p.A. organized a Live Demonstration and Training Sessions on Road Construction Practices for milling, paving and rolling techniques. The events took place on 20th and 21st of November 2018, at Ashghal Research and Development Centre in Najma. The demonstration and the training were repeated in two days, to accommodate the number of the participants. Milling, Paving and Rolling activities are essential processes to ensure the quality of the road; several QSD-ANAS audit findings provided the reasoning for the selection of those specific areas for demonstration and training. The event was offered by Wirtgen-Vögele-Hamm group, organized and hosted by QSD-ANAS and supported by Q-FAB, BOOM and TEKFEN. The training, both practical and theoretical, was provided to registered Contractor’s Operators, by Trainers mobilized from the equipment Manufacturers (Wirtgen, Vögele and Hamm).

Live demonstration

Over 200 Operators, Foremen, Engineers, Supervisors, Technicians and Managers of Construction Contractors, Supervision Consultant, Independent Laboratories and Ashghal, attended the live demonstration. Industry best practices were demonstrated by the Trainers, using equipment provided by the Contractors (BOOM & TEKFEN). The demonstration covered manufacturer’s recommendations about principles and concepts of practices related to the operation of road construction machines. The demonstration took place in three phases: Milling of the existing asphalt took place by using WIRTGEN

(W200) milling machine Paving of asphalt mix (high performance mix containing

15% RAP, in line with Ashghal’ Roadmap to recycling) using a VÖGELE (SUPER 1900-3) Paver and

Rolling of laid mix using HAMM (GRW 18) pneumatic tire and (HD 90) Steel Rollers

At the end of the live demonstration the Trainers answered questions from the audience.

Trainings on Asphalt Milling, Paving and Rolling

Three parallel full-day trainings were offered on each day, free-of-charge, to more than 100 Contractor Operators and Engineers. Training sessions started in the morning of each day before the Live Demonstration. Trainees witnessed in close proximity and when feasible in/on the operating equipment, the milling, paving and rolling

operations, which were showcased also to the public. The console of the machines and the equipment set-up were explained to the Trainees by the Trainers. Training sessions continued in the afternoon, in classrooms, where construction practices were explained in detail. Hard copies of the training material was delivered to each Trainee. Certificates of attendance were released by QSD-ANAS to all Trainees.
