What can we do wrote thatwithout active participationof people, the issue of globalwarming cannot be tackled.Although government is tak-ing necessary actions to com-bat this problem, their planswill not succeed without ourefforts, she wrote.

She further wrote that thereare many ways to resolve theissue, such as using energy sav-ing bulbs and purchasing eq-uipment that is energy efficient.

It is a practice in somedeveloped countries to spe-cialise a day, in a week, onlyfor bicycles where no fossilfuel consuming transporta-tion is allowed. Global warm-ing is our problem. This plan-et is our home, if we dont dosomething to protect it, whowill? she asked in her article.

She wrote that climate cha-nge is a gradual increase of theearths temperature attributedto the greenhouse effectcaused by the high concentra-tion of greenhouse gases

carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, methane, nitrous ox-ide and fluorinated gases. Sheobserved that the environ-mental issue surfaced in thelate 19th century, when thefossil fuels were discovered.

Soon machines wereinvented, factories wereopened, cars came into exis-tence, electricity was intro-duced to the modern world, architecture was developedand pollution started spread-

ing everywhere. The discov-ery of fossil fuels changedeverything! Peoples lifestylechanged epically! However, the world was still unfamiliarabout the consequences thatwould impact it negatively,

she wrote.Since then, the planet earth

has started experiencingmore and more natural disas-ters, like floods, wildfires, fail-ing crops, extinction of somespecies and the melting of

polar ice caps.In India, the island of

Lohachara submerged mak-ing 10,000 of its residentshomeless. Islands such asMaldives and MarshallIslands are also at risk of get-ting submerged in the future. In 2007 alone, heavy rainfalland change in weathersparked catastrophic floodsacross India which resulted inmaking 10 million peoplehomeless. And England andWales experienced thewettest summer in more thantwo centuries recently, sheremarked in her article.

She also suggested somesteps to check the issue.First, unplug applianceswhen youre not using them.Second, use a drying rack tosave the energy otherwiseused during machine drying.Third, take shorter showers toreduce water use. Fourth, plant more trees in your gar-den. Fifth, walk or bike towork. Sixth, try to limit yourusage of plastic. Seventh, al-ways recycle your waste.
