What will it mean when most of us can af-ford to have the information in our DNA—all three billion chemical letters of it—read, stored, and available for analysis? In“Cracking Your Genetic Code,” Nova re-veals that we stand on the verge of a revo-lution. Meet cancer patients returned to ro-bust health and a cystic fibrosis suffererbreathing easily because scientists have beenable to pinpoint and neutralize the genetic ab-normalities underlying their conditions.

One thingis certain: the new era of personalized, gene-based medicine is relevant to everyone.Soon, all of us may be deciding whether tojoin the ranks of the DNA generation.

“Decorative Picture Frames”Last month Dish Network added ourKENW-TV High Definition Channel (HD)to its local station lineup in most counties ofNew Mexico. DirecTV had already beencarrying our HD signal for most of last year.

However, when Dish and DirecTV cus-tomers receive HD signals, the receivingbox sometimes defaults to showing only theHD channel and those who want to watchour Standard Definition (SD) 3-2 channel nolonger can find it.

In order to watch the SD channels, aviewer has to go into the setup on theDirecTV or Dish receiver and tell it to“Show Duplicates” or “Show both HD &SD.” If you want step-by-step instructionson how to do this, please send us your mail-ing or e-mail address, which company youare using, and we will send the instructionsto you.

Both Dish Network and DirecTV Satellite services are now carrying KENW-TV in theAlbuquerque-Santa Fe Designated Market Area (DMA). This DMA includes all countiesin New Mexico except Roosevelt, Curry, Quay, Union, and Dona Ana. Both DirecTV andDish Network are carrying the KENW-TV High Definitions Channel (HD 3-1) and theKENW-TV Standard Definition (SD 3-2).

The Nielsen Company decides which counties go into the various DMAs. At the presenttime, there are 210 DMAs in the United States. In population size, the Albuquerque-SantaFe DMA is the 45th largest in the U.S. because it takes in most of the State of New Mexico.Nielsen determines the counties in a DMA by which television stations the viewers in thatcounty are watching.

By Nielsen rules, DirecTV and Dish Network subscribers in Union, Quay, Curry, andRoosevelt counties will receive the Amarillo PBS station. In all other counties of NewMexico, except for Dona Ana, subscribers will receive PBS from KENW-TV (Portales)and KNME-TV (Albuquerque). Dona Ana is in the El Paso DMA, and those subscriberswill receive PBS from KRWG-TV (Las Cruces) and KCOS-TV (El Paso).
