Education Week This week is Education Week, from Monday 20th to Friday 24th May. There is a lot on during the week so check the page

attached for the activities for each day.

The Cow Congratulations to Mrs Talbot and the Year 5/6 students on

gaining a Picasso Cow to paint. This will mean an investigation into the dairy industry, a visit to a farm and to keep a journal on

what they have discovered. We can’t wait to see the finished product. To kick off this investigation the Year 5/6, Mrs Talbot, Mrs Burke and Mrs Kaye headed out to Don and Meg

Stewart’s farm to learn a lot more about the Dairy Industry. Wow! What a great day we had. Don and Meg showed us what

they feed the cows, the calves, how to milk a cow and lots more. We have some potential dairy farmers in the future. A

huge thank you to Don, Meg and their staff for their time and allowing us to visit.

Head Lice

Please keep checking your children’s hair and make sure that long hair is tied back

for school.

Year 7-10 Learning Neighbourhood Is your child a worrier?

Part 1 of a 5 week series providing steps to help

you manage your child’s anxiety.

Step 1: Explain anxiety

Anxiety in children is common, with almost 7% of Australian

children aged 4-17 years of age experiencing an anxiety disor-

der in 2015. If your child is anxious they may struggle to ex-

plain how they feel. An important first step in helping your

child manage their anxiety is explaining to your child how it

works.

Teach your child that the part of the brain that protects

them from danger (the amygdala – pronounced ahh-mig-dah-

la), is on high alert when they are feeling anxious.

Explain that the amygdala sees danger, sometimes where

there is none, and the body prepares to fight for life or flee

from danger as if it’s protecting them from a hungry lion.

Discuss that the amygdala can’t tell the difference be-

tween a hungry lion and public speaking or some other task

they must face.

Talk about the changes that happen in their body to power

them up to fight or flee, including increased heart and breath-

ing rates and the pumping of the blood from the stomach to

the arms and legs, which can cause them to feel sick and even

vomiting for some.

Year 7 & 8 Bendigo Trip

Friday 30th May will see all eligible students take part in a

visit to the Art Gallery to work with Indigenous Elder Auntie

Marilyn to enhance their English and Art studies. Students

will work with Auntie Marilyn and learn to weave whilst

listening to her discussions about her culture and her family.

Students will also view an exhibition of artworks by

Indigenous artists (‘Under the Radar’) who prefer not to be

known as indigenous artists. We are also trying to arrange a

visit to the Bendigo Gem Club as well to further enhance

students understanding of rocks that are being studied in

Science and Art. Notes will go home Monday.

Kools Arts- Street Art Camp

This camp will be taking place on Monday 17 to Wednesday

19 June. This camp involves two nights in Melbourne

looking at street art, galleries, planning and undertaking

street art activities, creating sculptures and working with

artists in their studios. The camp is heavily subsidised by the

Loddon Shire, but will cost students $60 for their accommo-

dation, and they will need money for three lunches.

At this stage we have five people approved for art camp so

there is room for one more from Year 7 or 8. Anyone

interested should talk to Mrs Talbot. Notes for this camp

have gone home today

Year 9 & 10 Melbourne Camp

The dates for the Arts Connect Melbourne trip are Monday

17 to Wednesday 19 June. Details of this camp have been

distributed to all students. Can notes and deposits be returned

to as soon as possible so that rooms can be booked.

Grade 5 & 6 Picasso Cows

Our Grade 5 and 6 students have embarked on their cow

journey this week. We started the week with in depth

discussions about the dairy industry; we decided on work

teams and topics; we visited a dairy farm; we have made

butter and buttermilk pancakes and we have listened to guest

speakers. The week has been very busy and our learning has

commenced in earnest.
