Culmination of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme The Year 6s at John Wollaston Anglican Community School have just completed their final inquiry as part of the

International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

These students are the first group to go through the programme throughout their primary education, since the IB

Programme’s establishment at John Wollaston eight years ago.

The "PYP Exhibition" relates to the opportunity given to students to exhibit the conceptual understanding, skills and attitudes developed through the Primary Years Programme. This year the students explored the central idea, "Passions and interests can inspire people to take action". For seven weeks students researched, investigated, collaborated and explored their own passions.

Once vigorous research and preparation had been completed under the guidance of their Year 6 teachers Mr Glynn

Crawcour and Mrs Louise Bristow, their mentors and their peers, each student exhibited the culmination of their work.

Each of the display stands throughout the exhibition was meticulously crafted and presented with great care and attention.

Head of Primary, Wayne Revitt said it is great to see such passionate children.

“I’m really very proud of the Year 6s and what they have accomplished; the self-motivation and the drive behind these

students are what make them excellent, well rounded young people

“This really is what the International Baccalaureate Programme is all about,” said Mr Revitt.

Many of the students have chosen to take action in their local communities, whether it is through creating and distributing

pamphlets or writing to the local newspapers.

Sasha Lewin studied the diets of animals and what people should and shouldn’t feed their pets.

“I really want people to know that there is more to animal diets than just dog biscuits for dogs and cat biscuits for cats,”

said Sasha.

Other students have exhibited on topics such as cruelty to animals, the implementation of Oscars Law to prevent puppy

farming, obesity and the impact of video games.

“It is very pleasing to see these students taking action on issues about which they have

such conviction. Their parents should be very proud to have such motivated and socially

conscious children,” said Principal Anne Ford.
