PV MessagesMessage from Co-Op President

Frank FieldS Last month was another great month here in PV. There has been a lot of participation in the activities. The 50th anniversary party is approaching and I hope there will be at least a couple hundred people attending. There will be free food, drinks, and table service provided by the CO-OP and MHOA. There will be games and events for people of all activity levels. There are sign-up sheets in the mail area for those wanting to attend and participate. There will be custom made medals for the event winners. Made just for PV. The CO-OP election is over and I hope those elected will help us continue to move PV in the right direction. As always, look out for your neighbor.

Message from MHOA President terry yorke

We are having a baby back rib cookoff on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3rd at the clubhouse at 6:00 p.m. Please check on Facebook for more information. It’s Bazaar time so please check my report in The Voice this month for more information. Help is needed so please sign up in mail room area. The pancake breakfast was a great success and a good way to meet new and old residents of the park. Make sure you come and enjoy the boat races on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. and also other upcoming events on the calendar on the back of each month’s Voice. March 2nd MHOA meeting is election time. If you have some time and want to have some fun and join our board please sign up on the sheet in the mail room which will be posted after the bazaar takes place. If you have any ques-tions about becoming a board member please ask myself or any of our board members. Nice to see all our new sporting venues being used – great people, great park!

merry SinaCore The House is full and everyone, I hope is enjoying them-selves. Welcome home, everybody, and let’s get going. Board members and I have been going to all different classes for our continuing education in community as-sociations. We are getting smarter, so watch out!! These meetings are open to everyone and I will post when they become available for you to attend. The landscapers have started; I hope they are doing a good job. Hopefully they will continue. Anyone who chang-es their phone # should let us know. If you are leaving here, please let us know. These things help us track you down. Make sure all your information is updated. Residents are using the Pickleball courts and the Bocce Ball courts. We have new lighting at these areas so it will help you when you want to play at night. Our Shuffle Board Courts are being used, we now have a men’s team or should I say a mixed team outside of the fantastic teams that play and win. Our Rules and Regulation Page 6 XIII Guests-For the protection and safety of all residents, all guests must be registered at the community office by the host Resident. All children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times when in any common areas. On a personal basis, I want to express how nice it was to see residents starting to participate and have an interest in the elections. We had all great candidates who could bring new ideas that would benefit the entire community. Which brings me to the fact that we had some criticize lunch time rather than focus on issues that would benefit the entire community. So, I am going to tell you how I feel - in any other community you usually cannot find anyone such as Frank Fields who you can call at any time, and he will come over to your home and help with a water problem, electric problem or I am scared problem. It would be hard to find someone as nice and caring as Marylou who is always helpful whether she is eating lunch or not. You will also be hard pressed to find a maintenance staff, Ron & Tom, who are so accommodating that will stop what they are doing to help move, fix, or shut down something so you can go on with your life in Paradise. For myself, I worry, watch and look after all things here as though they were my own. This community is in great shape because not only do I care but I have Dick Edwin, Frank Fields, Kathy Weir, Attorneys, and a CPA firm that guide and help me and the Board make any decision. I think you need to be grateful you have a commu-nity that others want to be a part of. You have a team that works well together. We need to be positive and supportive not critical of things that do not matter. Our Treasurer Dick

Edwin, is one of the most honest people I know. Dick, Frank and I take great pride in always doing the right thing with your money. It is their community also and they do not want anything to happen with a negative effect. If your community was going in the wrong direction, I would say you need to worry. It has increased in value and become a premier park according to our insurance and mortgage companies. So, let’s work together for continued success.

Newsletter: Passing the Torch First, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to keeping the Plantation Village newsletter alive! When Roni Ditzler asked me to take it over back in May of 2015, I was skeptical about following in her shoes! Roni had dedicated herself by creating a magazine mock-up every month, with graphics and lots of articles. She spent hours of her time. Ted Ormiston began the “Meet Your Neighbor” articles back in May, which has been a pleasure to read. When I took it over, I met with the publisher, Teledrex. Since then, I would submit the information each month in an email, and Jean at Teledrex did the lay-out, graphics, and organization. I want to thank Jean at Teledrex for the great job she does. Copies of the newsletters can be found on the Facebook page, Plantation Village News. If you go to “FILES” it goes back to February 2018. Thank you to Karen Harmon, who has agreed to be the editor. I know she’ll do a great job, and I hope everyone remembers to send in information, ad’s and activities to her each month. The new email is: [email protected].

Kathy Holly Thank you, Kathy for all of your support, guidance and patience with me.

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORroGer and Carole nelSon

by Ted Ormiston I must apologize to start this inter-view to the Nelsons if I seem disorga-nized. I’m not sure I can do justice to their globe-trotting. Roger was born in Little York, Indi-ana and Carole in Lagrange, Indiana. They were both previously married with their spouses passing away in 2013. After Roger’s wife passed, his son asked Roger to come and live with him and Roger did so from 2014-15. It was while attending his son’s church that Roger met Carole. After Roger met Carole he had to return to China where he was finishing up his current employment. While he was back in China Roger made a long distance proposal to Carole which she accepted. He returned to the United States, married Carole and then they both flew back to China where he finished his work. Who says long distance relationships won’t work?! Roger was in the United States Naval Reserve stationed in Chicago on a destroyer escort for six years. Carole and her first husband opened up a tool and equipment rental office in Munster, Indiana and then a second office in Cedar Lake, Indiana. Roger earned his degree in industrial engineering

working in the aerospace industry in Phoenix, Arizona and Little Rock, Arkansas before the global bug got hold of him. Roger lived and worked in Hong Kong for 10 years and was also a part time professor at Hong Kong University with class sizes of 100-200 students. Roger says that both his business acquaintances and his students referred to him as a “generous manager” because of his gentle delivery methods instead of coming off as bombastic! Roger says that there is a huge difference in the way elderly citizens are treated in China versus the way they are often treated in the United States. He says in China they are revered because of all the knowledge they have acquired in their lives while in the United States they are often thought of as washed up. Roger is a member of the Wednesday night euchre get-togethers in the PV clubhouse but has given up golf as too demanding of his body. Carole enjoys oil painting. Roger is currently serving as secretary on the HOA board and both Roger and Carole help out during the HOA coffee and donuts Saturdays. When I asked them about their most memorable mo-ments, they both said their marriage to each other and Carole added that the birth of her children were very special for her. Roger said that his travels all over Asia brought special joy to his life. It was very nice to get a special insight to the life’s travels of Roger and Carole Nelson.

Activities in Rear ViewGolf Cart Parade and Home

Decorating Awards By: Terry Yorke

This year we had 15 wonderful, well decorated golf carts. The parade, led by Peter Mazzei, took us around the village and back to the clubhouse. We are contemplating starting the parade one half hour later so that everyone can enjoy the lights on the carts. First place went to Patti, Sharon and Ken and Sharon and Dave. Second place went to Lindy and Terry (probable because we were handing out York Peppermint Patties) and third place to Diane and Wanda (third place was a 3-way tie and a pick out of a hat took place to determine the winner). The Home Decorating is getting tougher each year as the imagination of our residents in decorating their homes keeps rising. Great effort to all of you. 1st Place 211 Pineapple St., 2nd Place 37 Harvest St., 3rd Place 281 Apricot St. Honorable mention also goes to 184 Guava, 2 Apricot and 2 Orchard. We convened to the clubhouse for a cookie and hot chocolate social and awards. Next year we would like to sing some Christmas carols as well, so if anyone can play our piano to accompany our singing we would appreciate you letting Terry Yorke know that you would be available.

Thank you I would like to thank the 8 PV residents who donated blood for the One Blood Drive on Saturday, January 5, 2019 and share with everyone some information. The 8 donors provided 8 units of blood and each donation can save up to three lives, so 24 patients could benefit from the lifesaving efforts of blood donors. Every two seconds someone needs blood. The blood donated at our blood drive will likely be transfused into a patient within 48 to 72 hours. The turnaround is that fast and is that constant. Again, thank you for being donors, and I hope that we have 20 donors at our next PV One Blood Drive on Saturday, March 9th from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm. There will be a sign- up sheet at the mailroom closer to the date and hoping we will have 20 donors.

A BIG thank you to Chuck, Terry, Linda, Linda T., Barb and anyone else who went up on New Year’s day morning and cleaned up the club house. It was a nice surprise to everyone who got there at 1:00pm. The next dance is Febrauary 23 with Brett Baker. Brett was here last year and is well known in this area. Hope to see everyone there. Tickets are $5.00 and a sheet up sheet will be posted on the board.
