Continuing Exposure Triangle
REVISITING
ISO
• Like turning up the volume on the sensor - it makes it more sensitive to light.
• Use faster shutter speeds in poor light.
• Each step on the scale doubles the sensitivity.
• Trade off is grain / color
How / When to use ISO❖ Super low light / images are
blurry or dark❖ If Lens has a VR or IS setting
Use It! They will help with stable images but not images in motion when the Shutter is slow.
❖ When in low light brace yourself or use a tripod
❖ Avoid using HI ISO on your cameras…The quality of the image will suffer
Revisiting
APERTURE
• How much light the lens lets in. • Each movement up reduces the light by
half. • Each movement down doubles the light • Controls the depth of field or how much
of the image in in focus
• Depth of Field is one way to separate you subject from the background Depth of Field is the front to back zone of the image
Revisiting
SHUTTER
• Controls how long the light is let in• Its the speed at which the curtain
opens to allow light in • Controls the sharpness of an image. • Long shutter speeds make things blur,
shows movement • Short shutter speeds stop motion
Focal Length, Zoom, Prime❖ Focal length is measured in MM.
This is not the length of the lens but the length and angle at which the lens can see. The optical distance from the point where light rays converge to form a sharp image of an object to the digital sensor.
❖ Zoom lens have variable focal lengths. 70-200mm
❖ Fixed Lenses have fixed focal ranges 85mm
❖ Most lenses are their sharpest between f5.6-f8.
Lets Play
The Triangle Change one Effect the others
We are Exposure
Break up into 3 even groups You are ISO, Shutter, Aperture
Assignment Shoot in Manual ONLY
Using a stuffed animal or doll or large toy Shoot in the following conditions:
Morning, Mid-day, Evening, Night, both inside and outside. Load your images onto the shutter fly site by creating a new album. Do not shoot any more than 3
images in each condition. Shoot the same subject for each shooting condition.
Print the best image, list your camera settings, title, and description. Place in your portfolio and bring to next class.
