2010: Year in Review

The 2010 school year

was an eventful one for the Chi Epsilon chapter at Purdue University. In the spring, Chi Epsilon, along with Civil Engineering Stu-dent Advisory Council and ASCE student chapter, held a date auction at Boiler Mar-ket to raise money for Relay for Life. The date auction was a huge success. Along with the date auction, mem-bers of Chi Epsilon also par-ticipated in the actual relay which benefitted the

American Cancer Society.

In March, Ashish Sogani and Cal Bearman attended the National Conclave in

Tuscaloosa Alabama. At the conclave, the delegates voted on many different

legislatures that were proposed to the atten-

dees.

The faculty breakfasts were held in February and October and, as al-ways, they were a great success. It was a won-derful opportunity for students and faculty to get to know each other better and for pledges and officers to interact. We also welcomed the new civil engineering faculty to the breakfast. The pledge retreats were held in April and Novem-ber at Happy Hollow Park in West Lafayette. The weather for the retreats was perfect. The pledges enjoyed sunny skies to

play Frisbee, grill out and

got to socialize.

During the fall semes-ter, Chi Epsilon held a graduate school informa-tion session for prospec-tive graduate students. Dr. Rao S. Govindaraju discussed what to expect from graduate school and steps for application. A student panel of current graduate students was also available to answer questions and share their

experiences.

A minimum of three hours of service was es-tablished as a new re-quirement for active Chi Epsilon Members. As part of this requirement, Chi Epsilon held tutoring

Chi Epsilon Scholarship, Character, Practicality and Sociability since 1929

sessions on Wednesdays for students needing help with their class

work.

Chi Epsilon held re-view sessions for stu-dents preparing for the Fundamentals of Engi-neering Exam. Profes-sors from different em-phasis areas led reviews for their respective sub-

jects.

Both the spring and fall semesters con-cluded with the initiation of pledges and the semi-annual banquets at the Purdue Memorial Union. We were pleased to have a great turnout to honor our newest members and

award recipients.

Award dents and faculty members, and the recipient is selected by a panel consisting of the trustees, the faculty advisor, and the president. The win-ner is honored at the ban-quet and receives a mone-tary award. The recipient of the Leonard and Margaret Wood Award for Fall 2010

was Mr. Dan Cronin . The Spring 2010 recipient was Ms. Brittany Scherer . Con-gratulations to these stu-dents for their hard work,

dedication, and leadership!

The Leonard and Marga-ret Wood Award is an honor given to a student(s) in Chi Epsilon that best exemplifies excellence in both academ-ics and leadership activities. This award is made possible through the generosity of the Wood family. Candidates are nominated by both stu-

to the practical needs of the society, is assuming a

constantly increasing responsibility for the physical
