Sciennes Primary School March 2012 LG Guidelines on iPad Responsible Use for Pupils Your iPad Sciennes Primary School will provide an iPad for you for school and home use. The iPad belongs to the school but you can use it at home and in school for as long as you are a pupil at Sciennes. Before you take the iPad home, you must read and sign the school’s ‘Technology and Internet Use Responsible Use Policy, which tells you how to use your iPad and the Internet responsibly. You and your family must also sign the iPad Responsible Use Contract (which is a more detailed version of these guidelines). Supervision At any time, your parents/carers and any member of staff can ask to see your iPad, files you have made or websites you have viewed. You must follow the rules in the Responsible Use Policy at all times. Care of Your iPad You will be given a protective case but you must take great care not to drop the iPad or scratch the screen. You are very fortunate to be given your very own iPad. It is your responsibility to look after it carefully throughout your time at Sciennes. You must not change the iPad in any way. clear your browser history add any stickers or decorations to the iPad. swap iPads with another pupil. erase the iPad remove Apps from the iPad Home Use When your family and you have signed the iPad Responsible Use Contract, you will be allowed to take the iPad home. Note: This privilege may be taken away by school at any time. To be allowed to use the iPad at home: you must charge your iPad at home and bring it to school charged. you must not bring your charger or sync cable to school. you must follow the rules in the Technology and Internet Responsible Use Policy. Damage Sometimes there might be problems with the iPad that are not your fault (computer crashes, software errors, etc.). The school ICT team will try to help fix these and it might be possible to lend you a spare. Accidental Damage and Carelessness Accidents do happen. There is a difference, however, between an accident and carelessness. If we think that you have been careless in looking after your iPad then you may lose the privilege of using it. Three Strikes” We will record all problems with the iPads. It is highly likely that if you are not taking care of your iPad responsibly then you will lose home-use privileges. Lost Equipment If your iPad is lost, you or your family must report it to the school immediately. Stolen Equipment Your safety is the single most important thing. If you are ever in an unsafe situation, where someone tries to take your iPad, you must give it to them immediately and contact the police. Learning We believe that having your very own iPad at school and home is going to help your learning. We are very excited about this project and we look forward to finding out how you have been using it. Research Hull University will use your weekly Pupil Log for their research and they may wish to interview you in person. You can also use your Pupil Log to ask any questions. We really hope that this project is successful and helps your learning so that more pupils like you can have a chance to use technology.
