DESCRIPTION

For this project I was given the chance to work on Interface Design for an iPad/iPhone application. As the Making Waves company is a sailing company in the Western Isles I decided to design a information and GPS tracker that would be very helpful to the company and its members. I focussed heavily on information tracking, giving the application the ability to track necessary and important information that related to sailing. As an extra I designed a GPS function, a social networking function and a compass.

Making Waves iPad App1 Overview

This application lets members and non-members track, store and share important sailing information whilst on the go. It allows users to visually gather information whilst out at sea. This appli-cation uses high-end technologies and GPS tracking features to gather informa-tion such as location, direction via com-pass and basic information like distance, speed and duration of each journey. All this information can be saved and stored, with graphs and charts that are able to catergorize all the information into brackets such as best results and personal goals. The application allows users to navigate throughout using touch screen technology. Users can share information with others using the application via social networking sites.

Making Waves iPad App2 Great information

The application offers a wide range of trackable values and graphs that users can navigate through depending on what information they need to track, whether it be locational or directional.

Making Waves iPad App3 Summary, history and best results

The application offers users with the chance to store all journeys history which is viewable, sharable and storable on the iPad and any other Apple device. Also, it can be stored on the iCloud serv-ers which offers great flexibility.

Making Waves iPad App4 Comprehensive data display

The application offers users detailed graphs based on their information and results that they have recorded and stored whilst out at sea. This offers users a more in-depth analysis of their jour-neys, with the ability to track speed, dis-tance and duration of a journey, which is all viewable within this graph format. This format can also be published or shared on social networking sites.

Making Waves iPad App6 Route tracking and sharing

The application offers users route track-ing functions that require GPS signals whilst out at sea. It also allows users to determine their location, and gather specific information such as co-ordi-nates and positioning details such as lattitude and longitude and adds an ability to share this information with other users which adds a completely new feature of interaction with other users, whether they are just interested or if they would like to meet at sea, this feature is great for all users.

Making Waves iPad App7 Rotational screen and multi function

The application offers users to access the application on other devices such as the iPhone without losing functionality. The app was designed for the iPad as the application can then be used with boats equipment and panels that can be added. The iPad also offers a bigger area to work with, keeping the information visible when at sea it may be difficult to view small sized information.

How to use

The first screen opens when the user clicks on the application icon on the home page. It shows the infor-mation in totals, giving the user an overall idea of what he has recorded so far. With the abili-ty to share, look at the best results or chose to view them in graph format.

Clicking this icon will start recording a journey and take you to the next screen.

This panel shows all the active infor-mation that is being recorded for the user in big typefac-es which help the user identify impor-tant information.

The user can flick this tab to change the format in which the information is viewed in. (mph - km/h)

The user can flick the slider or press the icons to change the summary of the bottom tab which can either display a graph, map or com-pass.

Clicking this icon will take the user back to where they came from.

Users can scroll down the page by click-holding and scrolling down to view more information.

Users can input information depend-ing on their ship/boat details using the touch screen keyboard

Clicking these icons will direct the user to the settings screen or the best results and history screen.

Users can click on panels and select what they want to do, either share, delete or move up or down.
