Thanks to the Dr. Oz Show which aired on Novem-ber 17th 2011, Pulsed Magnetic Therapy or PEMF

or short is becoming more and more a household

word or alternative pain relie and overall health

and longevity. Though Dr. Oz promoted pulsed

electromagnetic therapy in general, he did not en-

    dorse any one specic brand.

In this buyers guide, I want to share with you 19

critically important tips you need to know beore

buying any pulsed magnetic therapy device.

Additionally Electroencephalogram EEG studiesprove that the brain wave patterns are roughly in

this range rom Delta to High Beta (0-30 Hz). Even

more evidence is Supplied by Adey and Bawin

who discovered that the biological window o re-

quencies the cells absorb is again roughly 0-30 Hz.

Make sure to use only PEMF machines that have

requencies that are closely aligned to nature. Ide-

ally this is roughly 0-30 Hz. Nature produces re-

quencies mainly in this range due to what is called

the Schumann Resonance (7.83 Hz is the 1st har-

    monic).

Question #1:Does the device produce earth-based

    frequencies?

The Device Should be strong enough to handle

problem areas yet sae enough to be in compli-

ance with U.S and DIN saety standards. The DIN

0848 saety standard says the intensity should

never exceed 400uT or 4 Gauss.

Some devices on the market have intensities that

are way too high. Dont be ooled by companies

that tell you that you need a stronger intensity to

get results. The key is requency resonance, not in-

tensity. So look or a device that uses intensities

close to what the earth provides.

It is critical to use only machines with low inten-

sities between 0 and 70 uT (Micro tesla). This is

what the Earth provides us and it is what is natural

    (Earth is Approximately 30-70 uT).

So, you know the old saying, sometimes Less isMore. In Fact, when it comes to PEMF Therapy

less can sometimes be essential and more can be

harmul. And there is plenty o research to sug-

gest that the lesser eld strengths (in the earths

Look or a Device with an Organ Clock or at least a

A simplied explanation is that typically we op-

erate at higher or more energized requencies in

the day (Beta/High Beta Brain Wave) while we are

working and active and in the evening and night-

time our brain and nervous system operates at

    lower requencies (alpha/relaxation, theta and

    delta/deep sleep)

For example, you dont want to be put to sleep in

the morning or energized beore bedtime. What

you need is energizing requencies early in the

day and relaxing ones at night. Most machines

DONT oer this option, so ask. Circadian rhythms

in the human body are a well researched phenom-

enon so having a biorhythm clock keeps the body

tuned to the cycles o the body is benecial.

Look or a Device with an Organ Clock or at least a

machine that adjusts the requencies to dierent

times o the day. Circadian rhythm or biorhythm

studies have proven that our brains, bodies and

even the planetary requencies change at di-

erent times o the day. There are both internal

    (thalamus) and external (environment) biological

clocks that have a proound impact on our wake/

sleep cycles and energy/tiredness cycles that oc-

cur throughout the day and night.

    Question #2:Does it include a built-in Biorhythm

    Clock?

Question #3:Is it Strong Enough, Yet Safe?

Question #4:Is there a Sensitive Setting for

    Sensitive Individuals?

natural range) actually work better in clinical stud-

ies. IMPORTANT: I you are chemically sensitive,

you will want to nd a mat with a picotesla setting

    (very weak magnetic eld).

Make sure to get a ull body mat with pairs con-

ducting coils or upper , middle and lower body

with a decreasing magnetic ux rom head to-

wards the eet. What this means is that you want

    ideally 3 pairs o coils, or the head/neck, hips/

torso and legs/eet and one coil or each side othe body. AND, The coils toward the upper body

should have a lower intensity (lower intensity =

lower magnetic ux = smaller number o turns in

coil) and the coils toward the eet should have a

greater intensity (magnetic ux). This is very im-

portant because the legs and eet can handle a

much higher intensity than the head and neck

(which are the most sensitive area). When walking

on the earth the eet naturally experience a slight-

ly higher intensity especially when in contact with

the ground. But even more important or people

that are chemically sensitive or electrosensitive is

that the head and neck/thyroid can be easily over-

    stimulated and irritated.

WARNING: Avoid the new wire mesh mats (on Be-

mer 3000, Medithera and QRS Quantron). These

mesh mats CLAIM to oer a more uniorm eld

(and they do) but at the expense o giving both

the eet and head the same intensity. This meansyou are LIMITED by the intensity the head can

    handle.

Another important point rom Physics 101 is that

a pure magnetic eld using a current can only becreated rom a current loop.

Several devices on the market use a wire criss-

cross mesh with oval current loops surrounded

by plastic tubing(See attached image). Not only

is this the wrong geometry to create a pure pul-

sating magnetic eld, it also has spacing between

consecutive turns which allows the magnetic eld

    lines to be urther distorted.

The criss-cross wire mesh is NOT a current loop

and will NOT create a pure magnetic eld, period!

Question #5:Is the Intensity Graduated from Head

    to Feet?

Question #6:Does the Machine Actually Have PURE

    Pulsating Magnetic Fields?

You want to nd a pulsed magnetic eld device

that uses a sawtooth waveorm. The sawtoothwaveorm provides the maximum impulse or ac-

tion potential across the cell membrane which will

boost the voltage o the cell.

Make Sure the Local Applicators use a SQUARE

WAVE. Why? Because the square wave is the most

eective or breaking up cycles o pain AND also

the square wave works best when it comes to

healing and regeneration. This inormation comes

DIRECTLY rom the NASA study done on PEMF us-ing a square wave.

The 4 year NASA study is perhaps the most in-

tensive and thorough investigation ever done in

pulsed magnetic therapy. It was a multi-million

dollar study conducted by Dr. Goodwin with the

goal to nd the most eective type o electrother-

    apy or healing and regeneration.

The conclusion was that a pulsating magnetic eldwith a requency o 10 Hz, very low intensity and

a square waveorm was most eective or pain re-

lie, healing and regeneration. Only two devices

    on the market oer this.

Also the sawtooth yields the greatest spectrum o

requencies that can be delivered simultaneously.

Again make sure the requency range is 0-30 Hz.

This NASA study CLEARLY proved the square wave

pulsed magnetic signal was BY FAR the most pow-

erul or pain, healing and regeneration.

Look or the NASA proven square wave on the pil-

low and pen/probe/pen applicators on a PEMF

    device.

We have clearly demonstrated the bioelectric/bio-

chemical potentiation o nerve stimulation and res-

toration in humans as a documented reality.

The most eective electromagnetic feld or repair

o trauma was square wave with a rapid rate o

change (dB/dt) which saw cell growth increased up

    to 4.0 times.

They urther noted that slowly varying (millisec-

ond pulse, sine wave) or non varying DC (CW la-

sers, magnets) had little to no eect.

Final Recommendation: One may use square

wave EM elds with rapid rate o change or:

*the rst study to clariy technologies and efcacy

parameters or tissue growth and restoration

    Repairing traumatized tissues

    Moderating some neurodegenerativediseases

    Developing tissues or transplantation

    Nasas Conclusions

Make sure the device switches polarity every ew

minutes. This is important because the body willget used to either a constant north or constant

south pole polarity. This is one o the main draw-

backs (amongst others) why you DONT want a

static magnetic mattress pad or pulsed magnetic

therapy devices that do not switch polarity. Every

two minutes is an ideal switch.

Is there an integrated Light and Sound Relaxation

    System?

Bioeedback is the process o becoming aware o

    various physiological unctions using instruments

that provide inormation on the activity o those

same systems, with a goal o being able to manip-

ulate them at will. Processes that can be controlled

include brainwaves, muscle tone, skin conduct-

ance, heart rate and pain perception.

One o the easiest and most eective orms o bio-

eedback is Heart Rate Variability (HRV) which can

be easily and accurately measured through the

    pulse (nger or ear sensors).

The beauty o using bioeedback to adjust intensi-ties in a PEMF device is that it allows the user to

relax and the system will automatically adjust the

settings which the body needs or that given time

    and day.

    Pem Provides:

This is a nice option especially when the light and

sound device uses the same requencies that are

    in the mat.

Question #9:Does the Unit Switch Polarity?

    Question #10:

Is There an Optional Light andSound Machine?

Question #11:Does the Unit have a

    Biofeedback Feature?

    greater cell viability

    accelerated cell growth

    better organized cell morphology

upregulation o genes related to collagenproduction

upregulation o genes related to cell restora-tion and growth

    bioelectric potentiation o nerve stimulation

Only a couple PEMF devices on the market are

digital and programmable, and only one has a SD

card capability to add new sotware programs and

allow upgrades to be implemented easily.

Most PEMF systems are still solid state and have

no ability to be upgraded or changed UNLESS awhole new unit is made. That is everything is hard-

wired and there is not ability to upgrade or add

new sotware. That is 1980s technology.

    Only a couple PEMF devices

    on the market are digital

    and programmable, and

only one has a SD card ca-

    pability to add new sot-

ware programs and allowupgrades to be implement-

    ed easily.

The MRS 2000/iMRS is one o ONLY TWO consumer

(end user) Pulsed Magnetic therapy products that

are regulated by the FDA. It is also FDA compliant,

FDA listed and FDA Registered. I you are consid-

ering any other PEMF device, most likely it is notregulated by the FDA.

Make sure the unit you buy is with a company that

is always improving to make their product bet-

ter. Unortunately there are a lot o units on the

market that have not changed since their incep-

tion or changed very little. The best companies are

ALWAYS researching and working on ways to im-

    prove their technology.

The new iGuide is a SD card sotware program

available ONLY to licensed health care practition-

    ers.

The iGuide SD card comes pre-programmed with

250 conditions and settings or the pillow, probe

and pad which in total is around 3500 pre-pro-

grammed variations or all applicators and organ

clock settings. The iGuide upgrade also gives the

practitioner the ability to program a time rom

    1-60 minutes instead o just 8, 16 or 24 minutes.

This eature is only ound on the new iMRS.

Only two devices we have seen have a true bio-

eedback eature. Some claim bioeedback, but i

there is no actual sensor hooked up to measure

cardiac or brain wave patterns, it is impossible to

    have bioeedback.

Question #12:Is the Unit Digital and Easy to Upgrade?

    Question #14:It is FDA Registered?

Question #15:Is the Company Progressive and

Always Improving?Question #13:Does it come with a database of

    Protocols?

Price is always a big issue, but dont conuse price

with cost. I a device is priced at say $4000 and re-

ally, really works to the extent that it helps prevent

a $4000 surgery, how much does the unit really

COST? Not to mention the pain relie and added

benets that can come with a good PEMF device.

Dont settle or a cheap machine that will yield lit-

tle or no results, because they actually could end

    up COSTING you more.

Make sure the unit has a good warranty. I recom-

mend nding a machine with at least a 3 year war-

ranty. These devices are expensive and very sensi-

tive, so you want to make sure you are covered.

Look or a nice padded mat that is comortableeven on a hard surace. Also the applicators should

be convenient and easy to apply.

It is an added bonus i the mat and applicators are

    easy to clean too...

Look or a device that is

    easy to use and operate.

    Some pulsed electro-

    magnetic therapy devic-

es require a lot o train-

    ing to use which can

become an obstacle togetting ast and consistent results.

This question is not numbered because it is per-

haps the most important. Most o the devices on

the market will oer some sort o benet with theright training and support.

When you buy a PEMF device, you want to make

SURE you have expert support available because

everyone is unique and has a certain body type

and every illness is dierent and requires a dier-

    ent protocol.

Not having expert training available will not only

prevent you rom getting results, but can evenlead to adverse detox and healing reactions.

PEMF therapy is 100% sae, but it can trigger a

Question #16:Is the Unit a Good Value

    value/dollar)
