    July President’s Report

It has been a pretty good July. We have taken the T to the Bay for a good evening drive several times now. The top comes down and the nice evening breeze feels good. With my new motor running real strong now, I feel good about going on the road again. What a turn out and a great tour we had on the 21st. My co-president put together a 125 mile tour up through Arlington to Darrington and back down along the Sauk Valley Rd. It was a very beautiful drive. 11 Model T’s ranging from 1912-1927 were there for the drive and 2 speedsters made it as well. This was a great test for my new motor so I was very excited about the tour. The speedsters made it back to the Borton’s home first and 10 out of the 11 Model T’s made it back without incident. Thanks to my wife for bringing up the rear of the tour with the break down trailer. She only had to load one T on it, got the T back to the Borton’s and I put a new timer in it and they were back on the road again. After a few stops and 5 hours later, we settled in to a potluck supper and BBQ beef sandwiches. There were T’s that showed up that we haven’t seen for a while so it was good to see some of the old faces again. Thanks Dick for a great Saturday tour! When we get back to our fall meetings there will be some discussion on the president position. The ques-tion will be asked, “do we want to continue having a co-president or go back to having a single presi-dent?” I will be stepping down from the co-president position this winter as we are getting ready for our move next year. I will continue to be with the club and be active until we leave the United States. I still have one more thing up my sleeve for our next meeting. It would be really great to have a large turnout so I can pull this off. We have several more tours up and coming so let’s give them a good turn out again and let’s have some happy T’ing this summer. Respectfully, Dwaine Engler

Free to good home - I put new upholstery in my ‘23 Touring and purchased new seat springs. The old seat springs still have the original upholstery and appear to be usable and have no broken springs just rusty. If there is anyone in the club that would like these let me know and I can bring them to the tour next month or can arrange a pick up at my place. The price is free............ Borton’s South Skagit Tour It was a fine day for a drive and we had some beautiful scenery on the tour hosted by Dick and Beverly Borton last Saturday. We started the morning with the typical pastries, juice and coffee as folks arrived, chatted a bit and prepared for the day. Our group left the Borton’s farm heading east on highway 530 (being careful with some modern traffic) to Darrington where we gathered back up and had a gas/rest/potty stop. On north to head west on the Con-crete Sauk Valley Road and the South Skagit Highway. We gathered again in Clear Lake for a pit stop before heading back south on highway 9 to Arlington and back to the Borton’s farm. Overall the tour was about 125 miles. Once back at the farm it was time to eat again and we had plenty to choose from with BBQ sandwiches, a great selection salads and more desserts than we could do full justice to. With our bodies replenished and a good chance to socialize with our Model T friends, we called it a great tour and headed to our homes. There was an excellent turnout for the tour, with 13 Model T’s of various years and body styles. Dick and Beverly Borton provided maps (which let us spread out a bit - Thank You) and lead the way with their 24 TT. Bob Allen had his 21 speedster pickup, George Anderson and his son Doyle had George’s 26 Coupe, Walt Berdan brought his speedster, Ken & Shelley Burlile & kids had their 16 Centerdoor. Mike Conrad from the Carbon Canyon T club drove his “Bender Special” speedster up from Buckley to join the tour and took the honors for most miles driven with almost 200 miles round trip just to get to the tour so over 300 miles by the time he got home. Dwaine & Linnette Engler brought their 25 Roadster Pickup. Dwaine drove the T and Linnette drove their modern truck with a trouble trailer for “just in case”. Larry Garner and his grandson Tyler had the 12 Pickup, Mike & Donna McGinnis had their 12 touring, Ray and Nancy Moore brought the 26 Tudor, Larry & Bev Roberts brought their 14 Touring. Larry & Carole Mann with friends Gary & Marianne drove the 26 Touring and George Wood and friend ran his 16 Coupelet. Over the day there were a few mi-nor issues that required some as-sistance but all the cars were run-ning at the end of the day. Batter-ies don’t live forever and timers need occasional maintenance. Thanks to Dwaine and Linnette Engler and Ray Moore for lending assistance as needed. Overall this was a fine day and many thanks are due to the Bor-ton’s for setting up an excellent tour. We’ll have another opportunity to join them again on August 4th (see page 6 and give them a call if you will be able to participate). Part of the line up

    LAKE CAVANAUGH TOUR

    August 4, 2012

Join us on a 65 mile tour for beautiful views of mountains and, if we are lucky, bald eagles. Meet us at our horse farm at 9:00 for coffee and treats, with the tour starting at 9:30. We will go through Arlington on Hwy 530 to Oso, turning left on Cavanaugh Road, which is a gravel road with some steep sections (great for testing our up hill driving abilities). From there we will go to Lake Cavanaugh, circling the lake. Head-ing back, we will take Hwy 9, going through Arlington and then back to our farm for a barbeque/potluck (we will furnish the meat). Please RSVP to Dick Borton, 360-652-6517 or [email protected].
