THE CLUBS 50TH ANNIVERSARYNow is the time to plan for a very special National Specialty tocelebrate the 50th Anniversary of the American Lhasa Apso Clubto be held this coming October in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. CMLAC andNACLAC will follow with specialty shows while ALAC will hostperformance events on Wednesday, the Regional Specialty onThursday and conclude with the National Specialty on Friday. Allin all, it makes for a wonderful week to renew old friendships andmake new ones.

MAKE PLANS TO COME

The Anniversary Committee is working hard to make the 50thanniversary National Specialty one that everyone will remem-ber. There will many historic artifacts for everyone to see. TheBreeder's Education Committee has a program planned for all toenjoy. As with each year, the awards banquet will celebrate thelatest winners in a long line of wonderful animals. Don't forgetto commemorate this special year with a catalog advertisement. The commemorative catalog will include the winners from yearspast and we expect a large number of advertisements in thiscollector's item. You certainly don't wantlo be left out! Startplanning now for pictures to enter in the photo contest. This par-ticular event is always a lot of fun and 2009 should be no excep-tion. And don't forget to donate to the Trophy Fund. We will havewonderful trophies designed by our very own member LaurynaRubikaite. As is our custom, a $50.00 donation gets the donortwo ringside seats. And the ALAC Rescue Raffle will include awonderful handmade blanket. You can have your kennel nameembroidered on the blanket with a $10.00 donation to ALAC Res-cue. WEBSITE HAS ALL INFO!

To get all information available on the National Specialty, be sureto visit the website at www.lhasaapso.org.

WHY WE ATTEND THE NATIONAL

I think this is a time to examine why each of us attends theNational Specialty each year. While everyone would love to walkaway with top honors, the fact remains that there are only a fewwinners — those dogs and bitches that will garner points towardchampionships or various rankings. But everyone who attendsthe National Specialty and exhibits is a winner! For the realpurpose of the National Specialty is to showcase the animals thatwe have bred, trained, and conditioned to our fellow breeders. Itis after all, the opinions of our fellow fanciers that really reflectthe success of a breeding program. It's not that fleeting moment.however proud it may make us, when the judge points to yourdog as the winner. Instead, it is the time when a fellow exhibitorapproaches you with an interest in breeding to your male or add-ing a dog from your breeding program to their kennel. That is thetrue definition of success in the sport of dogs.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

On one final note, ALAC is looking for someone to serve asNational Specialty Chairman for 2010 and beyond. The NSCneeds to be familiar with the rules and regulations for holding adog show and have the time to organize and communicate withthe various committees that handle the intimate details involvingthe show. We are also in need of a Ways and Means Chairman. This committee head must be someone who attends the NationalSpecialty each year and who is available to man the booth duringSpecialty Week making ALAC items available for purchase. Ifyou are interested in serving ALAC in either capacity, pleasecontact me by e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at817-875-8513.

See you in October!

I can't begin to express how muchColby meant to me. 5-le changedmylife, introducing me to the world of

dog shows and all the wonderfulpeople that craziness entails.

3-fis character was larger than life, often silly, sometimes a bit naughty,

but aCways with a happy tailEver the charmer,

he made quick friendsof everyone he met along his journey.

Colby me with joy, whether making me smile

"just because"or laughing at his antics. We shared so many wonderful timesand ITCforever hold those memories

close in my heart.

Our favorite moments were the quiettimes when he would-Cie on his back

in my Cap, melting into my arms. Our bondwill- remain inseparable.

Sire of io champions, Colby lives onthrough his kids and grandki&

The tragic passing of Colbyhas left a huge hole in my heart.

DON'T TICKLETHE

For those who are looking to clean their dog's teeth, use our biscuits named Dragon's Teeth, or Dragonettes forthe little mouth or mouths with few teeth. The shape of thebiscuit helps to scrape off the plaque, if fed soon after eating or at bedtime.

The April 2004 issue of Life Extension Magazine reported in aJapanese study about perilla oil, which is one of the ingredients in Dragon'sTeeth biscuits. The study concluded that it was a possible treatment in the earlystages of colon cancer. It is also used with heart problems and breast cancer.

We also use south Antarctic krill, which look like small shrimp. They live in clean Antarctic waters.

Astazanthin, another ingredient, helps to reverse early cataractsand early macular degeneration, according to recent studies. Lookup information on the Web.

We use oatmeal, a non-allergic grain. The oldest long-livingman on record supposedly lived to be 152 years old in England during the reign of KingCharles I. The man claimed that he ate oatmeal everyday of his life. As a guest of the king, he was given

meat to eat. He was dead within two weeks. Interesting! We included peppermint to settle the stomach and clear up bad bacteria in the stomach.

Peppermint is also used for IBS and diarrhea. We added green tea for its antioxidant properties.Oriental cultures credit long life to green tea.

Fish is brain food. Our chitosin is from fish. It is used in many diets since ithas the ability to absorb excess fat and is safe. Many reducing diets include chitosin.Spinach is our source of chlorophyll. Every cell in the body containschlorophyll. (That is why our Solid Gold Sea Meal is our shining star!)

Chlorophyll transmits electricity in our body from cell to cell. Without it, the body couldn'tcommunicate its actions.

If you saw our previous ad, "In Search of Cinnamon," about our Cinn-BoneBiscuits in 21/2 and 1 pound containers, you read that cinnamon contains

sulfur, the eighth most prevalent ingredient in a dog and human body. Insects can-not reproduce in the presence of cinnamon. It is a natural flea, fly and insect

repellent. But do not put cinnamon on your dog's coat, it willdry the coat out. It must be mixed with other ingredients andtaken internally. The flea season is coming soon.

The Chinese have an interesting saying: "Don't tickle theDragon". Not sure what it means!Dragons Teeth and Dragonetts are available in 1 pounds or21/2 pound jars. Call to place an order at (619) 258-7356, M-F,11 am-5pm (PST).
