(ii) Themes

1) National Seminar on Environmental Management and its Feature Perspectives Research and PG dept. of zoology ,in association with KFRI, Peechi under the sponsorship of UGC conducted a two day national seminar on “Environmental management and its future perspectives” .Dr.M. Abdulssalam, vice chanceller of Calicut university inaugurated the seminar. Dr.P.A. Azeez, director ,SACON and natural history(SACON)delivered the keynote address. He also presented a paper on- sustainable development. About 200 participants including research scholars and faculties attended the seminar. Dr.Ajith kumar (NCBS, Bangalore), Dr.Y.B. Sreenivasa (scientist, Indian wood science and technology,Bangalore), Dr.I.K.Pai from Goa university,T.V .Sajeev ,scientist,KFRI Peechi, Dr.Padmalal,scientist,centre for earth science studies,Thiruvanathapuram, Dr.Arun, scientist, SACON gave informative talks on the subject. Reserch scholars and faculties presented papers in the national seminar.

2) UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Khilaphat Movement PG Department of Arabic and Islamic history conducted a UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Khilaphat Movement and its reflections on social and literary life of Mappila Muslims of Kerala. Inauguration was done by TK Hamza, former member of Parliament. Principal Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman presided over the function. A. Muhammed, Secretary College Managing Committee gave special talk. Dr. E.M. Abdunnasar, Prof. Muhammed Aslam, Muhammed Ayoob, Aslam Ameen, Abdul Jabbar offered felicitations. Dr. K.P. Abdurahiman welcomed and Prof. P.P. Ahammed proposed vote of thanks.

3) UGC sponsored National Workshop on Value addition in Fruits and Vegetables Dr. H.S. Vibhagara, scientist from Defence Research Lab gave the keynote address. A sales cum exhibition of food items processed by students of Food Technology Department also marked the workshop.A. Muhammed, MES State Treasurer, Dr. E.M. Abdul Nasar, Kappil Muhammed, Aslam Ameen Felicitated. Prof. Cibia George welcomed and Prof. Jawahar, faculty member of the department, proposed vote of thanks.

4. Dr.P Anvar, Higher Education Council Member Secretary addressed a combined meeting of the first and second year PG students on the topic “Present higher education scenario”.

5. On 20th Dec, a departmental seminar was conducted on the topic “Towards second edition of kerala Model of Development”.Dr.M.Usman, principal Amal College of Advanced Studies, presented a paper on the topic. Students actively participated in the discussion following it.

6. A departmental seminar was conducted on the topic “Indian Economy after Global Meltdown”on 5th March. Prof. KMA Rahim, retired faculty of the Dept. of Economics presented paper on the topic.

change, the university has introduced credit and grading system. As an affiliated college, we have implemented the change. Introduction of Credit Based Semester and Grading system for all the programmes. Inclusion of 80:20 patterns for all programmes. 80 marks for external component examination and 20 marks for internal component examination.

For the improvement of result of final year students, bimonthly examinations were conducted. Unit tests were conducted after the completion of topics. Educational trips / excursions were arranged to provide direct exposure to historical place and techniques adopted in the diverse fields.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes: Help and encourage the faculty to use IT enabled techniques of teaching. Arranged teachers’ training programmes to develop teaching skill.

Prepared an academic calendar to convey the examination schedule, teaching days, celebrations, results, holidays, vacations, etc. to the faculty, students and parents. Carried out evaluation of the faculties from respective students with the help of questionnaire.The IQAC plays crucial role in the development of teaching and learning processes. In this context, IQAC has taken the following efforts for students and teachers.For students: The progress of students was monitored through unit tests, home assignments, seminars, etc Introduction of two value added certificate courses like, Basic electrical and Safety and General Awareness in chemical industry. Established Language lab to improve the communication skills in English.

3.1 Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the institution: To inculcate the climate of research, the college has constituted a research committee. The committee meets at regular intervals to promote research activities in the college, encourages staff to do part time research and take up research projects. The main objective of this committee is to encourage and

help the faculty and the students to undertake research projects.

Led a Teachers training workshop on 18th May 2012 at Mount Seena Public school Pathiripala, Palakkad Dt.Led Teachers training workshop for Arabic teachers on 29th May 2012 at Ansar English School, Perumbilavu, Trichur Dt.Led a session on “Tips for Excellence” at the function of the inauguration of Al Yara Arabic club and launching of department website on 20th July 2012 at PG teaching and Research department of Arabic Farook college, Calicut. Led Teachers training workshop on 31st May 2012 at Irshad English School Melattur.Sabique attended 31 other programmes as resource person in various schools and colleges in the state.

k) In February K. S Anoop Das, evaluated a presentation competition at

Providence college, Calicut, for students from various colleges of Calicut. The topic was ‘Emerging trends in science’. On January 23, 2012 K S Anoop Das, gave a lecture on the “Need of conserving the Sacred Grove” to students at the Marthoma College, Chungathara

l) Mr.Shihabudhin,our guest faculty presented a paper on the ”Socio Economic impact of Gulf Migration”in the semniar conducted in Darunnujum Arabic College, Karuvarakundu under the auspices of KSHEC Trivandrum.

2012 June 5 – World Environment Day launched “ Clean Campus and Green Campus’’ project on the

campus in connection with the World Environment Day. Volunteers planted saplings on the campus and nurtured the

previous plantings. Affixed and distributed awareness leaflets on the Campus.

2012 June 26- World Anti Drug Day Observation Observed World Anti-Drug Day by Conducting an awareness class

and screening Films for the students on the Campus. Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman (College Principal) inaugurated the function. Mr. C.H. Ali Jahfar (Assistant Professor, Amal College, Nilambur)

delivered a lecture on ‘The Social, cultural, religious and Political dimensions of drugs’.

Students and teachers took pledge against drugs. Five short films on anti-drugs were exhibited. 200 Students

participated in the function.2012 July :_One Day Special Camp for Senior volunteers

As part of “Clean campus & Green Campus”project, ‘One volunteer One Tree’ Project was also introduced.

2013 August. 4 NSS Orientation Programme for newly enrolled We conducted One day orientation camp for newly enrolled NSS

volunteers. Our Pricipal Pro. O.P. abdurahiman inaugurated the function. NSS programme officer P. Mujeeburahman presided over the

2013 August.15 Independence Day Observed Our 66th Independence Day was observed very reverently. College

Principal Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman hoisted the National Flag at 8.30 AM and gave message of the day in the presence of NSS Programme Officers Sri. P. Mujeebu Rahman and Ms. N.Hind , NSS Volunteers, NCC Naval Wing Cadets and other Students and Staff.

Distributed sweets to all. Conducted a Seminar on the topic ‘Sustenance of lives by all’,

presented by Advocate P.A. Pouran. Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman presided over the fuction.

Afterwards, NSS Volunteers made rain water harvesting pits, cleaned the Campus and planted trees on the Campus.

In August, our NSS units won best NSS Unit award (2010-11), former NSS programme officer Sri. A. Hasker won the best programme officer award (2010-11) and former NSS volunteer Mr. Shaheen Ali (B.A. Mass Communication) won the best NSS Volunteer award (2010-11) of the University of Calicut for the NSS activities in the academic year 2010-11.

2012 Sept.5 –Teacher’s Day Celebrated NSS and Civil Service Academy jointly organised the Teacher’s Day

celebration in our College. In the function, all teachers were honored by our students. They

distributed bouquet to all teachers. The function was inaugurated by Dr. P.K. Abdul Azeez (Hon. Former

Vice Chancellor, CUSAT & AMU) and also held key note address on the topic ‘Towards Quality Enhancement in Teaching and Learning’.

Our College principal Prof.O.P. Abdurahiman presided over the function. Staff Secretary Dr. E.M. Abdul Naser welcomed the gathering. Jb. A. Muhammed (Treasurer, MES Kerala)delivered special address. During the function, the Best NSS Programme officer 2010-11, Sri. A.Husker was conferred with a memento.

2012 Sept.24. Onam and Ramzan Celebrated To inculcate Communal Harmony, College and NSS units organised

Ramzan and Onam Celebration on the Campus. NSS programme officer P. Mujeeburahman welcomed the gathering Various Cultural Competition and Social Games-Pookalam, sack race,

tug of war, lemon spoon, fill the bottle, etc. were conducted for all Students.

Hon’ble Minister A.P. Anil Kumar inaugurated the function. College Principal Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman presided over the function. College Managing Committee Secretary Ambaden Mohammed

felicitated the function . All Students and Staffs were served Lunch and Payasam. Prizes were distributed for winners.

2012 October 2 : Gandhi Jayanthi National Service Scheme observed Gandhi Jayanthi Day as

Communal Harmony day. In the morning session NSS volunteers conducted debate on ‘Values of Our father of Nation and the Present Youth’ .

In the afternoon session volunteers cleaned the Campus and planted Banana trees in the NSS Organic farm on the Campus.

2012 Dec.10. World Human Rights Day _Seminar On the Human Rights Day, NSS conducted a half day seminar on the

topic “Human rights: Regional, National and International Perspective”.

2012 December 23 to 29: NSS Seven Day-Special Camp(2012-13)

The seven-day residential special camp for NSS volunteers of our college was conducted from 23rd to 29th Dec.2013 at Govt. L.P. School, Mampattumoola, Chokkad Grama Panchayath. 90 Students took part in the camp along with the programme officers Pro. P. Mujeebu rahiman and Abdul Naser.U. The camp was very seccssful in terms of better community participation and Vounteers’ involvement.

As part of the Camp, we conducted Study Classes, Debate, Anti-drug awareness Programme, organic farmers’ Meet, Socio-Economic and Health Survey, Family Meet, Pre-marriage Counselling, Plastic free Village, constructed River check dam, Road, field visit, Trekking, Cultural Programmes, etc.

10 Am : NSS Volunteers reached the Camp site and hoisted NSS flag and cleaned the camp premises.

As part of ‘Thanal koottu’ district level anti-drug awareness Campaign’s inauguration ceremony, our NSS Street play team (Shemin, Jasim, Ameera, Sruthi, Sona, Jinisha, Sreevarsha, Salman, Sumesh, Shibili, Roshan, Shahil) conducted a street play ‘Lahari-naamariyaadhe Nammaliloraal’ on 15/01/2013 in Malappuram town hall. It carried message against the use of alcohol, drug and smoking.

2013 Jan 15. NSS Pain and palliative Care The ‘NSS Volunteers in Pain and palliative care’ observed the

Palliative care Day. On 15/01/2013, Our Volunteers collected a sum of Rs. 50,500 (Fifty thousand and five hundred rupees ) from Nilambur town and handed over to palliative Care clinic, Nilambur on 15/01/2013.

On 15/01/2013, a sum of Rs.21,000 (Twenty One thousand rupees) collected from Edavanna town and handed over to Edavanna Palliative Care Clinic.

In addition to this, on 15/01/2013 and 16/01/2013, our NSS volunteers collected a sum of Rs.11,024 ( Eleven thousand and twenty four rupees) from our college campus and handed over it to the Edavanna Palliative care authorities on 22/01/2013.

Conducted a half day pain and palliative training programme to NSS volunteers on 10/01/13.

NSS Volunteers visited patients in the adopted village 2013 Kidney Patients welfare Fund

Our NSS Volunteers Collected a sum of Rs. 17,000 (Seventeen thousand rupees) from our campus to help a kidney patient on 14/08/2012 and handed over the amount to her family on

17/08/2012. On 18/11/2012, NSS Volunteers Collected a sum of Rs. 6,300 to help

a kidney patient and handed over the amount on 22/12/2012. On 20/11/12, NSS volunteers collected a sum of Rs. 10,000 to help a

kidney patient and handed over the amount.

2013 Pre Republic Day Parade NSS Volunteers Mohammed shahil N.K., Ameer salman.O.M, Vivek.A,

Thabsheer.C.P, participated in the pre-republic Day parade Selection Camp held on 14/09/12 at University of Calicut.

NSS Volunteer Mr. Mohammed shahil. N.K was selected and participated in the ‘Pre Republic Day Parade’ selection Camp held at NSS Bhavan, Jnana Bharathi Campus, Bangalure University from 28/09/2012 to 07/10/2012.

2013 Jan 26. Republic Day Republic day was celebrated . Principal O.P Abdurahiman hoisted the

National flag and gave the message of the day. Sweets and payasam were served.

A debate on ‘Republic India’ was held. Cultural Programmes were also conducted.

2013 Jan 31. NSS Red Ribbon Club- Blood Donation camp NSS Red Ribbon Club organised a blood donation Camp at MES

Mampad college in association with Regional Blood Transfusion centre, Blood Bank, Govt. Hospital Perinthalmana on 31-01-2013 and donated 77 units of blood by 90 voluntary Blood Donors. College Principal Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman inaugurated the camp. NSS Programme Officer P. Mujeeburahman co-ordinated the Camp.

2013 Feb. NSS- ASAP ( Additional Skill Acquisition Programme) As part of Additional skill Acquisition Programme, Govt. Of Kerala, in

association with its campus partner National Service Scheme, our NSS units conducted massive campaign on our campus . To get selected as skill Development Executive (to the pool of thousand splendid stars) 125 students registered for recruitment process. 80 Students participated in the interview and group discussion. Out of these 25 students got selected for 3 week Residential Training Programme held in various parts of Kerala.

2013 Feb. NSS- Teens Health Club Our NSS units were selected to implement NRHM-ARSH-Teens health

programmes on our campus.

2013 March 8. Human Right Seminar NSS volunteers participated and facilitated UGC sponsored two-day

seminar on ‘Human Rights Education’ organised by our college in association with the NSS, University of Calicut on 8th and 9th March

NSS Volunteers and Programme Officers harvested banana and later distributed to NSS volunteers, teaching and non teaching staff of our college.

2013 March 23 NSS Annual Day NSS Annual day was celebrated on 23rd march 2013 and

inaugurated by Adv. Muhammadali, former student of our College and District Judge of Consumer Court, Malappuram. Our college Principal Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman presided over the function. NSS Programme officer Sri. P. Mujeeburahiman welcomed the gathering and Ms. N . Hind presented the 2012-13 annual report of NSS activities.

Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman, retiring Principal, along with other retiring teachers was conferred with mementos on the inaugural session of the closing ceremony. Mr. A. Hasker, best NSS programme officer 2010-11, was also conferred with a memento.

Volunteers performed various cultural programmes and distributed mementos to NSS Secretaries, and also distributed prizes to various outstanding volunteers.

During the cultural programme of closing ceremony our retiring principal, Prof. O.P. Abdurahiman, who was a former NSS volunteer and NSS Programme Officer, recollected and shared his past college life experiences as an NSS volunteer, his career as a teacher and principal etc. with the volunteers. On the occasion he gave our volunteers some moral teachings and sang a song.

Committee for Total Improvement Programme conducted the National Level ‘Aspiring Minds Computer Adaptive Test’(AMCAT). 258 final year students of Art,Commerce and Science faculties appeared for this test. This test helped the students to seek a job in the top firms after the completion of their degree course. So far considerable number of students has received job interview calls and some got jobs.“Feedback Report” provided by the AMCAT after the analysis of result not only helps the student to understand their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (challenges) but also provides theguidance to correct the weakness.

After the theory examination, answer papers are assessed, by following strictly the rules and regulations laid down the University of Calicut and the result is declared in the stipulated time.

The affiliating university, the University of Calicut, has introduced credit based semester and grading system since 2011-12. Our college has implemented the system. The system includes in all 18tests/assignments in a span of three years, accumulation of credits earned and continuous evaluation.

The university has recently introduced steps to promote autonomous status. A few colleges have opted the status.

The past students of the college working in diverse fields and having key positions in the society are members of the alumni association. The college has innovatively introduced the concept of a ‘tutor teacher’. A teacher is assigned with the tutorship of a group of about 30 students of each department to maintain a two way rapport with the group in following student related aspects. Every year college executes the exercise of collecting feedback from the students of all programmes, on teaching- learning process and curriculum through parent-teacher scheme. This valuable feedback helps the teachers to upgrade their techniques of teaching.
