Block printsMurshidabad silk is often used to make block print saris. As the name suggests it is basically printed attire where the motifs are in the form of blocks. These motifs can be in the form of patterns, shapes or other figurines. The art of using block prints on silk is quite predominant in the eastern parts of India. Matka Silk

This is another variant of Bengal Silk. This particular variant of Bengal Silk is slightly thick and coarser than the others. The woven attires are generally stiff in nature and ideal for a formal wear as it drapes very well and has a stiff look about it.

Applique Sari

Applique Silk Sari is another famous type of silk sari found in the Bengal Region. This Sari is mainly a silk fabric adorned with colorful cut outs of other fabric. Here the patterns are not printed on the silk. Rather the patterns or hand embroidery are done on other fabrics and then they are cut in a way that the cut out is stitched on the silk fabric.

KanthaStitchBengal is famous for its Kantha Stitch Sari. This is a special type of hand stitch that is used to make beautiful embroidered bridal sarees patterns all over the sari. Generally, these kanthasari’s are an expensive variant and are mostly made on silk fabric alone. The kantha work or the embroidery on the silk fabric is often done in contrast colors, so that the hand embroidery is highlighted and prominent.
