What is Emotion in SpeechesSample Speech

“Lately, times have been tough. We have seen resources go down and workloads go up, we have seen uncertainty rise. We have all sacrificed. We have given up time with our families, our work has cut into our personal lives, we have lost our sense of balance. I know some of us come to work everyday filled with fear, resignation and doubt. Yet, in the midst of uncertainty, we have survived. These challenging times have tested our character, but we have not backed down. It has tested our perseverance, but we are still here. It has tester our team and we are still strong. Know that you have been through the worst, and it will always get better. You have stayed up late at night worrying about a future that seems unclear, and it always gets better. The best we can do in challenging times is appreciate each other and celebrate what we have accomplished. Know that despite our challenges, we are still making a difference. Do not struggle in silence, share your story. Not as a victim, but as a survivor. Today, we should be Proud of ourselves, Proud of accomplishments, Proud of our Team.”

What did I do different the second time I read it? Why did it sound better and more entertaining?

How to Add Emotion into Your Speech1. Prepare - Make sure you prepare a speech with information you feel comfortable

with so your overall delivery will be confident 2. Practice - The more you practice, the more material you will have memorized. Once

you try memorizing or truly knowing what you want to say in your speech, you can start working on adding your own personal touches and emotions.

3. Try Using Notes - After having practiced a speech you have written, having memorized it enough, try performing your speech with a set of flexible notes on what you want to say, instead of having it all written out for you to say verbatim.

4. Modulate your Voice - Make sure to vary your words in volume, tone, pace and pitch.

5. Use Familiar Words - When giving your speech, use words you would use in everyday conversation.
