PTA Meeting February 13 at 7pm

Please join us for our next PTA meeting this Tuesday, February 13. We'll be chatting

about upcoming PTA events, and hearing from Mr. Bendis and Mr. Kish about the

latest news at Franklin.

FMS PTA & YOU?

We are also seeking a few more Franklin Parents to join our Executive Board next

year! Will YOU consider joining us as the Secretary, Vice President, or the VP of

Volunteer Outreach? We woud love to work with you!

7th grade parents

We are starting to plan for 8th grade already. Your 7th grade student should be bringing a

course selection home on either the 12th or 13th. Please go through both sides of this

document with your child and fill in the necessary information. Parent and student

signatures are required on this form that is due back to Mr. Jensen in the guidance office

by no later that February 23rd. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Jensen

at [email protected] or 630-682-2060 ext. 3431.

8th grade parents Thank you to all of you who submitted a childhood picture and message to your student to

be featured in this year's yearbook. If you provided a self-addressed stamped envelope

with your ad, pictures are now in the mail. If you did not, pictures can be picked up in the

main office. Any picture not picked up will be tucked into your student's yearbook at the

end of the school year.

Thank you!

Cook's Night Out Chipotle

Thursday, February 22nd, 4-8:00 p.m.

Make plans with friends & mark your calendar!! Come eat out at Chipotle on Thursday,

February 22nd, between 4 and 8 p.m., and Chipotle will generously donate a

whopping 50% back to our Franklin PTA. Be sure to show them this flyer on your

phone, or pick up a paper flyer from the front office, so that your order gets counted.

Special note: we will be at the Chipotle ON ROOSEVELT in Wheaton, just south of

Target (....don't go to Danada!)

Also, online orders won't count toward our Franklin total - so please be sure to pay at the

restaurant. See you there on 2/22!

Box Tops for Education Our deadline is February 19th! We are doing our best to collect as many boxtops as

possible so we can purchase another set of Yogibos (which are the giant soft seating pillows

that are super popular in the LLC)! Please send box tops in and have your students turn

them in to the main office or the LLC and/or use the APP!

Cross Country Camp August, 2018

For the first time, Coach Harland and I will be running a Bulldog Cross Country Camp for

runners going into grades 6-8. Many of you know that Wheaton North runs an outstanding

camp in June, and I encourage you to consider that one, as well. Our camp will be run

through the Wheaton Park District, and the probable particulars are below.

• August 6-9 & August 13-16 (Mon-Thurs; 8 meetings in total)

• 7:30-8:45 AM (get them used to school wake up time!)

• Cost $70 for the 8 sessions of 1.25 hours (in district rate, I suppose)

• Cost will include a camp t-shirt

• Meeting points:

o Mondays & Wednesdays: Franklin Middle School (at Lincoln & Cross

Streets).

o Tuesdays: 7 Gables Park (drop off on Winner's Cup Circle)

o Thursdays: North Side Park (by pavillion near playground).

o If we are stormed out any day, Fridays will be our make up day

• The last day of camp, Thursday, August 16, will likely be a 1.5 or 2 mile culminating

race

• We will likely have a “bring your parent to run” day, for those interested; however,

a waiver will be needed by the park district for any parents who run with us on that

day

Page 4: PTA Meeting FMS PTA YOU? · I think the summer camp guide comes out in a week or so, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this camp fills quickly; the park district recommended that we

While this camp has the blessing of Mr. Bendis, it will officially be a Wheaton Park District

Camp. So, anyone may sign up. Of course, I really hope to have many kids who are

planning on running XC with us in the fall!

I’m telling you now so that you can plan. I think the summer camp guide comes out in a

week or so, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this camp fills quickly; the park district

recommended that we cap the size at 60 (they were surprised to hear that Coaches

Harland, Swik, and I have had teams as large as 140 in the last few years!).

So--mark your calendars, and watch for this camp in the WPD Summer Camp catalogue,

coming out very soon I think.

Keep On Running!

Coach Nielsen

P.S. We hope to soon have FMS Bulldog XC car magnets as a fundraiser too--hoping to

save up money to buy a team flag, and maybe a timer to use at the meets too.
