The UPLINX Provisioning System for Cisco Unified Communications is a comprehensive commissioning system
which simplifies the process of performing advanced commissioning tasks for end users leading to significant
automation, standardization, cost savings and reduced provisioning times.
It allows for the rapid setup of Cisco phones, device profiles, voicemail and presence details - correctly, first
time, every time.
Smart Console for Help Desks & Departmental Administrators
The Smart Console shows all configurations belonging to an end-user in a single user device view which avoids
to navigate between many screens and show everything for a user at a glance.
The Smart Console enables everyone to add, update or delete end-user configurations for Cisco
Unified Communications.
The Smart Console enables any basic skilled operator
to perform standard daily MACD provisioning. It
guides the user and auto-populates entries and
performs checks without requiring to know all Cisco
configuration details. The user is guided to select a
few general understandable parameters.
The Smart Console guides and helps basic skilled
users to perform daily MACD users by selecting a few
key parameters such as the user to be provisioned,
telephony site, class of telephony user and phone
parameters such as a model, MAC address and
extension. These parameters can be understood
easily by non-experts.

Leverage Existing Contact Information
User contact information can be imported from Active
Directory to pre-populate the Smart
Console based on versatile formulas.
Data can be read or written to external
SQL databases to integrate into asset
management or HR systems.
Automated data imports (and exports) avoid time
consuming data entry and minimising errors
introduced through repetitive manual data entry.
The Uplinx Console is the central workspace for all commissioning actions. The Console ties all elements together such as user
commissioning requests, detected AD changes, phone assets, AD users, and other UC parameters ensuring that all commissioning
requests are completed quickly (in seconds) and correctly.
Provisioning System for Cisco Unified Communications
Efficient, Consistent, Fault Free Provisioning for Everyone
Typically, tasks associated with creating a new user such as configuring a phone extension, user profile,
voicemail, and presence profile can take up to 20 minutes for a skilled resource as several configuration objects
with a multitude of advanced settings per object need to be setup on each individual UC system. The objects
then need to be linked to each other in the correct order or the provision will fail. When multiple UC elements
exist in an organisation, then several servers need to be accessed, each with different logins and differing
specialised configuration objects.
By using the Provisioning System, all these activities are undertaken from the single Smart Console significantly
reducing the time to undertake a MACD and removing any human error along the way to ensure MACDs work
first time—every time!
Extension Allocation
Extensions can be allocated ad-hoc during the
provisioning process on the
UPLINX Smart Console by using
the Extension Picker.
The Extension Picker shows for
the pre-configured extension
range per site the used and
free extensions, allowing to allocate or verify an
extension for an end-user.
The chosen extension can be expanded to a DID
(E.164) number and written back to Active Directory.

Scalability and High Availability
Virtualisation tools can used to
provide HA to the system. Multiple
Provisioning Systems can be
distributed across different regions
to support large or multiple CUCM
clusters.
Email Notifications
After processing a commissioning request, the system
can pre-populate an email based on
templates to quickly notify the end user
with relevant information such as log-in
details and how to use the phone.
Workflow
The Uplinx Provisioning System incorporates a workflow
to notify the phone administrator by email of user
submitted commissioning requests or changes found in
Active Directory.
During this process, information is gathered which
allows the phone admin to quickly process the change
or request by re-utilizing this information to pre-
populate fields, avoiding time consuming data entry in
various locations during provisioning.
Automatic Detection of User Changes
Active Directory user changes can be tracked and
relevant information of these changes can be emailed
to a phone or site admin to start the workflow. The
change will now be waiting in the Provisioning System
Console with pre-populated fields to action.
Multi-Admin (Departmental Admins)
Multiple administration and operational users can be
configured to access the Provisioning System via role
based administration.
Site administrators, customers or helpdesk can now
be given limited access to manage specific users and
phones based on Active Directory or CUCM rules.
Every action on the system is logged and reports can
be generated on performed actions.
User submitted requests or automatically detected changes
to AD users are listed in the Console.
Designed for large multi-cluster environments
A Provisioning System server is
capable of supporting numerous
CUCM clusters and associated UC
components.

Compliance
By limiting the number of fields available for editing
within each of the UC components
configuration tabs and via data
validation rules, the Provisioning
System ensures compliance of an
Enterprises UC standards.
Active Directory can be used as the “source-of-
truth” for generating provisioning requests.
Pre-filled data based on rules ensure fields or
set according to policies
Commissioning Request Portal
The Commissioning Request Portal page can be easily
integrated into an Enterprises Intranet to allow end
users to submit configuration change requests such as
PIN reset requests.
These received requests can trigger an email
(optional) to the phone administrator of that site to
process the request. The submitted information will be
presented in the Provisioning System GUI with
relevant pre-populated fields so as to allow the site
admin to quickly process the request and email a
completion notification.
Reporting / Tracking
The Provisioning System provides built-in reporting
allowing an enterprise or outsourcer to track details
based on the number of MACDs received and the
number processed.
Provisioning System for Cisco Unified Communications
Are you looking for a fully Automated System?
This document details the Smart Console which is a Console to simplify ad-hoc provisioning. If
you look for a fully automated, rule based system which integrates into Active Directory,
please see our Auto Provisioning System at https://www.uplinx.com/autoprovisioning/
Auto Provisioning provides for automated service provisioning for each Cisco end-user based
on the user's settings in Microsoft Active Directory. Optional approval of each operation.

Benefits
Benefits gained by deploying the Uplinx® Provisioning
System for Cisco Unified Communications include:
IT can hand over the support of MACD telephony
requests to a generalist helpdesk.
Making it easier for support staff to process MACDs
Enable site administrators or customers to perform
provisioning by only allowing access to their ‘own’
configuration objects
Daily operations can also be delegated to centralised
help desks or basic skilled staff freeing up highly
skilled staff by using a single customisable web
based Console which provides policy based
provisioning
Eliminate configuration mistakes.
Reduction in MACD processing times
Leverage re-use of information from other systems
such as Active Directory and CUCM reducing data
entry times through pre-population whilst also
minimising data entry errors.
Automatic change tracking of added/changed/deleted
users in Microsoft Active Directory.
Email alerting for new jobs.
Full reporting on provisioning activities. Allows for
SLA tracking.
Ensures compliance as change staff can only edit
fields that are configured to be visible and editable.
Provides workflow for a help desk with:
❖ Notification by email of changes in Active Directory
and submitted requests
❖ Records changes and requests P
