Basic Rationale

Students need training in job search techniques, resume and cover letter writing and interviewing techniques

Students need to start with awareness from the beginning of college about their future career needs upon graduation

Students need to learn more about what careers would be a good match

Students need access to help with career issues at times other than regular office hours of career center

Students need emotional support through the difficulties of finding jobs after college

Students will access this help more readily through means they are most comfortable with, such as internet, social networking, mobile apps, youtube, etc.

Students need some form of motivation to encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity

Feedback- from student and one professor

What WorkedGiving students the opportunity to do

their career development using formats that they are comfortable

with- notably online and in their own

time framesLessens the burdens

of the career centers because of the delivery of the training to all the students with one

formatGives students an

early start on addressing these issues and helps them plan their

studies and course accordingly

Improvement Delivery of the system would need a lot of software

design work How can you design a platform that can be used by any school yet can be modified for that specific institution. The online coaching needs to be worked out better for

both sides. Students need to both asynchronous and synchronous

online interaction Career counselors need to manage time spent with

students. There is no mechanism in this prototype that solves this.

Ideas?Schools willing to flex more on course

requirements and offerings so that students can do both- take courses that are “ broadening” liberal arts type course and

more practical, like “accounting”Schools offer more internship semesters

that give students the opportunity to develop necessary job expereince and skill

that the academics can’t provide

Questions? Engage students as freshmen when they

can’t see as far ahead as graduation?

How you get students to discover what they

really want to do before it is too late?

How can career centers to work more closely with faculty to help student design course work that is

relevant?How can you prevent

uproar from departments that

have majors with no clear relevance to getting jobs in the

future?How can you get

schools to buy this product? ( Is that a

good question?)
