2. THE UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA ADVANTAGE
Register at any time of the semester or year. This means that if issues such as finances, work pressures or family issues prevent you from registering, you do not need to wait until January or June to start. studiesstudies.
Continuous registration
throughout the year
Our philosophy is that a student can rather progress at a slower pace, as their finances allow, than not have the opportunity to study at all. For this reason, we allow students more time to complete their studies.
Tuition Fees are spread out over the course of the semester to make
Flexible, affordable and competitive
payment arrangements
You have access to a wide range of text books, research articles and other
supporting information sources from across the globe via our Electronic Resource Centre and Campus Library.
Physical and
Electronic Library
Four examination sessions per year facilitate progress without compromising quality. This compliments the fact that students can register and start their studies any time during the year. It also assists students, who have had to delay their studies due to personal reasons, to start again as soon as they are able.
Exams as you go
We have a culture of continuously optimising our operations in order to make education accessible to the wider community. In this way, the University of Africa has consistently maintained competitive tuition fees, while not forsaking quality of service delivery.
Lower study costs
With distance and part time studies, you can study whilst earning an income. Three further advantages of studying while working are: continue building a career; apply your learning at your workplace and better understand the context in which your studies will be applied.
Learn while you earn
With our distance learning programmes, a student can take up a job anywhere or relocate for other reasons without interrupting his or her studies – even across borders. This ensures continuity of effort and saves on registration and tuition fees at new institutions.
Seamless locality – not place bound
In partnership with the AdvTech Group, we have embarked on a major programme of harnessing the latest technology in education for the benefits of our students. This will improve customer service, simplify logistics and enhance connectivity.

5. FACULTY OF EDUCATION
5.1 Introduction The University of Africa is well established in the field of Education and has graduated more than 600
teachers since its accreditation in 2008. The Faculty of Education is now by far the largest faculty in the
University of Africa, with a rapidly increasing student base.
The Faculty of Education has excellent and passionate staff and offers a wide range of Education
qualifications ranging from Diploma to PhD. These qualifications cover the fields of Early Childhood
Development, Primary Education and Secondary Education, with various specialisations available.
The qualifications intend to empower learners with skills and competencies to function in both the private
and public education environments. The qualification will also cater for the careers of learners who are in
employment and will further prepare learners for further post-graduate study.
The programmes offer students the opportunity to study education critically through the academic
disciplines of sociology, philosophy, history and psychology, with ample focus on pedagogy and didactics.
This in turn develops learners with critical thinking skills that are highly transferable to a wide range of
careers.
The exit levels of the degrees offered are organised in terms of five components:
Fundamental Learning - to develop students’ skills in areas such as literacy and numeracy in order to
enhance competence in learning mediation, assessment and management/administration;
Subject and Content of Teaching - focusing on equipping students with skills, values and attitudes needed
for development as an educator;
Teaching and Learning - to enable students to deal with general learning and teaching issues and
processes to enhance the student’s roles as mediator, administrator, leader, interpreter and designer of
learning programs and materials, as well as for pastoral roles;
School and the Profession - to equip students for their roles as managers/leaders, particularly when
dealing with issues outside day to day classroom situations which, nonetheless, influence what happens
in the classroom;
9
Subject focus - that is to equip students to provide quality teaching in a specific field and discipline. Apart
from a module to understand the methodology of delivering the relevant field and discipline, these
programs also offer intensive knowledge of the specific fields.

8. MASTER’S DEGREES
8.1 Master’s by Research The University of Africa strongly promotes research and is proud of the body of work its students have
produced to date. Master’s by research is an excellent way to not add to this body of work, but also to
the promotion of a body work created in Africa by Africans.
Doing a Master’s by Research also allows the student to expand his knowledge and thinking in an area
which the student is passionate about and would like to specialise in.
Please speak to the Faculty Dean for further information on this exciting and important direction.
In addition to Master’s by research, the University of Africa also presents taught Master’s degrees. These
