4th Graduation Ceremony of Neapolis University Pafos

The fourth Graduation Ceremony of Neapolis University

Pafos, took place on Friday September 16 2016, at the

Coral Beach Hotel with 330 graduates.

The official ceremony commenced with a programme of

music and the procession of its Academic staff.

Greetings were delivered on behalf of the Minister of

Education by its Director General Manager Mrs. Aigli

Pantelaki.

Mrs. Pantelaki said that ''tonight's ceremony is an

important moment since with it the academic year 2015

– 2016 comes officially to an end presenting society with

a new team οf qualified academics, as a result of

intensive work and cooperation between professors and

students of the university”. In addition she said

“congratulations should be given to the administration,

the staff and the students of Neapolis University, as they

have accomplished filling a huge gap that existed in

Pafos, due to the absence of Academic Institutes.”

This gap was the one that the Founder and President of

the University Mr. Michael Leptos aspired to fill, by giving

the opportunity to Pafos to 'breathe the air of' knowledge,

culture and research. Today the younger generation of

Pafos has the ability to gain a high-level university

education, without having to move away from home.

At the same time, Neapolis University manages to

attract students from the rest of Cyprus' cities, Greece

and other countries.

The President of the Council of the University Mr. Michael

G. Leptos, welcomed the Archbishop of Cyprus

Chrysostomos the II, the President of the Democratic

Rally Party (DISY), Averof Neophytou, the former Speaker

of the Cyprus Parliament Giannakis Omirou, the former

Speaker of the House of commons of the United

Kingdom Baroness Betty Boothroyd and Entrepreneur

Sotiris Hadjiminas, and thanked them for their friendship

and support of the University's efforts.

Addressing both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Mr. Leptos said “You are the new force

of development, innovation and excellence and the hope for the regeneration of our country”.

At the same time, Mr Leptos announced the establishment of new schools and departments, the

introduction of new programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Nutrition, Physical Education Sciences,

Health and Tourism studies.

The General Attorney of the Republic Mr. Kostas Kliridis, the Dean of the Law School Professor

Antonis Manitakis, Former Minister of the Hellenic Republic and the President of the Council Mr.

Michael Leptos, handed graduate Mayor of Pafos Mr. Phedonas Phedonos his degree.

Neapolis University Pafos, continues its dynamic development, integrating into its resumé, World-

known and respected University Professors, as well as new innovative programmes of study, such as

the undergraduate and postgraduate programme in informatics, the postgraduate programme in

history, the programmes of law, architecture, business and psychology, all of which have generated

great interest. Finally, in honour of Mr Leptos' origin from Kyrenia, he announced the establishment

of the Academic Seat within the university for the study of Kyrenia's history and culture.

На пленарном заседании Парламента, которое состоялось 14 июля 2016 года, депутаты проголосовали за сокращение налога на недвижимость от 72.5% до 75% в 2016 году с последующей его полной отменой, начиная с 2017 года, - сообщает кипрское агентство новостей. Закон был принят большинством голосов: 29 депутатов проголосовали «за», 18 – «против» и 5 воздержались. За принятие данного закона проголосовали как представители правящей партии ДИСИ, так и оппозиционные партии ДИКО, социал-демократы из ЕДЕК и депутаты от партии Солидарность, которые согласились, что налог на недвижимость в 2016 году составит 25% от суммы, рассчитанной по ранее существующим налоговым схемам, и которые исходят из стоимости недвижимости на 1-е января 1980 года, при условии, что новый налог будет уплачен до 31 октября 2016 года. Новый закон также предполагает, что если налог будет уплачен в период между 1-м ноября и 31-м декабря, то он составит 27.5% от суммы налога по существующему на данный момент законодательству о налогообложении недвижимости. Если налог не уплачен до 31 декабря 2016, будет наложен штраф в размере 10% на 27.5% облагаемой налогом суммы. Закон также предполагает отмену налога на недвижимость, начиная с 1-го января 2017 года.
