2019 Great American Cleanup

The next Great American Cleanup is Saturday, May 4, 2019. The Great American Cleanup is the country’s largest beautification and community improvement effort. Nationwide, there were more than four mil-lion volunteers last year. Fort Wayne’s clean-up efforts focus on neighborhoods, vacant lots, trails and greenways, graffiti removal, streets and roads, and our rivers. The event provides a great opportunity for neighborhood associations, church groups, service organizations, youth groups, schools, and all residents to make a difference in their community.

The City is looking for volunteers and groups of all ages to take part in the clean-up of litter and debris from Fort Wayne’s neighborhoods, parks, roadways, trails, and riverbanks. In order to accommodate par-ticipants with an event tee-shirt, gloves, and trash bags, residents and groups are asked to pre-register by clicking www.cityoffortwayne.org/greatamericancleanup or by calling 311.

Northside Neighborhood Association will be helping to cleanup Lakeside Park 9am-12pm.

A dumpster will be available on Vermont (between Alabama & California).

Sweep off Your Porch! It’s time for Party!

A terrific way to get to know your neighbors is by organizing and hosting porch/yard parties this summer! There are lots of benefits of knowing your neighbors-from having a safer area to a healthier social life! Porch parties has been successful in the Lakeside Area and we would love for you to try it in YOUR area!

Decide what night of the week you want to hold your parties. Do you want to do just one? One each month? Each week? Lakeside holds theirs each Thursday during June, July and August. Talk with your neighbors to make a schedule and decide who will be the main organizer. OR just schedule one for YOUR yard and invite your neighbors!

Keep it simple! When inviting folks to host, let them know that no will need to go in their house (unless they choose), and nothing fancy or complicated is required! In Lakeside, the host provides a table for food and drink, paper products and a trash can! Each person attending is asked to bring food or drink to share. We always have a great variety and we quickly learned our neighbors’ specialities-everything from chips and a six-pack to fancy baked goods!

One person took it upon herself to organize the parties, make fliers (with dates and addresses) to hand out at the beginning of the season & set up a Facebook page. Slowly, others have jumped on the band wagon and we all know that many hands make light work! At the Neighborhood Association, we’ll be happy to help you publicize your parties on our social media outlets!

If you have any questions or want to brain-storm how to gett a party started in your area, feel free to email the Northside Neighborhood:
