Physical Properties

• A characteristic of matter that can be observed by your senses (color, size, shape, texture)

Chemical Properties

• A characteristic of matter that describes how that kind of matter interacts with other kinds of matter

The Chemical Properties of a Substance Will Determine How it Behaves.• .• *When substances combine and react to form a new

substance, a chemical change has occurred.

• A chemical change occurs as a result of a chemical reaction.

• A chemical change is usually not reversible – a brand new substance has formed. (think about the sugar and heat)

• A physical change is a change in appearance – looks different, but same substance as before.
