1. ASSUMPTIONS
Grand Wines Ltd. is a supplier of wines which delivers wine orders to over 400 retail outlets
in all of NSW. Its head office is in Sydney and therefore their sales representatives have to
travel a lot. The sales representatives are having problems in managing to take the orders asthey don’t have any idea about their stocks while undertaking orders. Therefore, Grand
Wines wants to equip their sales representatives by providing them with wireless data entry
devices to stay up to date with all information relating to deliveries.
This project is a big one and will take close to six months. A server has to be set up at the
main office in Sydney and all the wireless devices have to be routed to the server. The
wireless devices we are selecting will neither be too expensive nor cheap. They will be
affordable and be such that the sales representatives can carry out their order tasks without
hassles.
We will be ordering a wireless device which will easily read barcodes and which doesn’t
have many problems related to network, for example a SPT 1800 Device. It has got all the
things that are required to carry out the designated task. There are good features like WLAN
& Data transfer in SPT 1800. I uses Palm OS and is relatively cheaper than most other hand
held computers. Through these hand held computers, sales representatives can send the orders
directly to the office in Sydney. A lot of costs will be cut and data entry staff would not be
required because of these new equipment.
The project being undertaken is necessary or else there might be a large amount of customers
who may not do further business with Grand Wines because they are frustrated. This project
will therefore bring changes to the working scheme of Grand Wines and give the companymuch better success.
