PROJECT SYNOPSIS ON
Automating Agriculture
OBJECTIVE
Indian economy being an agrarian economy depends hugely on agriculture. A huge
percentage of the Gross Domestic Product is derived from agriculture.
An analysis of the current scenario reveals that there is huge shortage of labour to work in
the fields. The labour available is quite costly and with the emphasis shifting towards service
industry related jobs, the labour force isnt available easily for agriculture.
Furthermore, the practices currentlybeing used by farmers in India are obsolete and India isway behind rest of the countries of the world.
Hence the project aims at automating various processes related to agriculture, such as:
1. Ploughing2. Sowing3. Irrigation4. Use of fertilizers, insecticides & pesticides5. Harvesting, etc.

APPLICATIONS
As mentioned above, the system has enormous potential in India. With fully automated and
intelligent fields, the quality of crops increases & the risk of human error minimises.Farmers are not subjected to back-breaking labour with such automated fields.
Above all, it reduces the amount of capital invested in the labour and using the village mass
for some other productive work rather mere using them as non-intelligent labours which
even a machine can be.
CONCLUSION
Its high time India adopts better and intelligent methods of crop production to safeguard
the rich diversity in crops and increase its production to meet the growing demad of food.
Also, to be rated as a world superpower, it needs tofree its people from back-breaking
labour when machines and robots are available that can perform the tasks easily and
cheaply.
4
The robot autonomously performs ploughing,
sowing, irrigating and other tasks as required.
5
Moisture sensors embedded in the soil regularlymonitor the moisture content and hence field isirrigated when required.
6
The system also incorporates rain water harvesting
system and solar panels for renewable energy.
