Project Description

Brazil's lush jungle vines provide a design with organic and fluid forms that

capture client's attention while giving them a sense of calm.

Pavia & Cabral is a Brazilian law firm specializing in intellectual property law that is moving its practice to the 12th floor of an office building in Washington D.C. They have a reasonably small firm size with 2 equal partners who manage 4 associates, 2 admins, 1 IT specialist, 1 receptionist, and 1 paralegal. Their business is expected to grow while working in their new space so there must be room to add extra offices to accommodate future employees. Both partners want their new firm office to reflect the values of their home country and their international practice. Most of all they want clients to feel comfortable the moment they walk into the firm and remain comfortable throughout their legal case reviews with lawyers.

Problem StatementThe Challenges:

1. Incorporating a design that reflects Brazilian culture into a law firm business.

2. Ensuring personal privacy is maintained between lawyers and their clients.

The Solutions:

1. Use of rich woods in finishes and furniture to promote warmth, comfort, and character.

2. Comfortable lounge seating that is pleasing to look at.

3. Wall and Ceiling finishes with sound reduction and insulation properties.

4. Custom ceiling panels with sound trap design to provide both visual interest and noise reduction.

Research

Sergio Rodrigues 1927-2014

“The piece of furniture is not just the shape, not just the material which is made but also something inside it. It’s the piece’s spirit. It’s

the Brazilian spirit. It’s the Brazilian furniture”
