Narration:A number of burglaries throughout the world have been linked to Facebook “status updates” People become so comfortable posting details of their lives online, but don’t realize they are also notifying criminals of their whereabouts, most importantly that their house is empty. Facebook and Foursquare both have applications that allow users to “check-in” to locations. Foursquare is most popular in large cities and based in New York City, but is gaining popularity. “Checking-in” to a location or posting where you will be at a specific time is offering thieves an open invitation to raid your home.

(Sketch screen here noting color, place, size of graphics if any)

Narration:Scams have been a plaguing users of Social Networking sites since their inception, and scammers are getting more sophisticated. Recent scams include clicking on a link to see a video of a shocking event, only to be prompted with further instructions to “like” a page to see the image. This allows scammers to record your information and post the same enticing link for your friends on your profile. Anytime Facebook users add an application to their profile, for a game or other activity, they are authorizing the developers of that application to view and distribute information they post on the site, such as age, gender, photos, information about friends, and even friends photos.
