Project Pandita
Goals and Aims
07 Apr-19 Majhi Maitrin Charitable Trust, Pune 2
Project Pandita was taken up by the Trust
in 2017-18 in Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s
Kanya Shala, Dehu, a rural school near
Pune with the objectives to help the girls
– To correctly understand and interpret Science,
Math, English concepts thereby increasing
their interest to study more
– To increase their skill levels in written and
spoken communication
– To improve their performance in 10th standard
board examination in order to enhance their
prospects to take up further studies in
vocational/professional courses
– To introduce them to various vocational and
other career options of higher studies through
visits to other illustrious colleges for girls and
so also to self employment opportunities .
Project Justification
07 Apr-19 Majhi Maitrin Charitable Trust, Pune 3
The target participant girls
come from low income &
barely educated parents
where there is little incentive
to carry on the education.
Moreover the lack of
exposure and guidance
makes it difficult to cope with
subjects like English, Maths
and Science.

Project Methodology

Salient points in the methodology
adopted consisted of:
1. The coaching with be mainly with a focus
on the concepts and techniques to be
applied.
2. From the 2nd year the coaching was
extended from 5 days per week to 6 days a
week and the number of weeks in the year
were increased to 24.
3. The experience from Year 1 & 2 is being
reviewed & considered while planning for
Year 3 and adjustments required, if any,
will be incorporated in the course design.
Project Methodology

Modifications and Results
During the 1st year, we realised that the understanding of
Science, Math, English concepts was not on par with the
marks obtained in the school examination. Often
understanding a question was itself a problem. We
realized the need to continue the project beyond 12 weeks
to obtain the expected results. During extended six weeks
additional training in Math and English was provided .
Looking back on the 2nd year & mere satisfactory
progress of the girls in English, we realized that these rural
girls had no opportunity whatsoever to read
extracurricular English books to add to their vocabulary
either at home or in a public library. We mooted an idea of
starting a small library for these girls. We shared this with
Dr. Rama Venkat of St. Mira’s College. She not only readily
accepted the idea, but proactively supported it by
donating a lot of books for it.
We have changed the content of afternoon snacks for the
girls. Amul milk was not very well liked by the girls hence
it will be replaced by equally nourishing Peanut Chikki
/Rajgira Ladoo/banana.
Results
Obtained from 2017-2019
07 Apr-19 Majhi Maitrin Charitable Trust, Pune 8
1. As the basics were understood, the
girls became more interested and
enthusiastic about studies.
2. They have developed a liking for
Science, Maths and English
3. Their reading skills have
improved. Now they are able to
pronounce and read English texts
/ story books correctly.
4. As their understanding improved
their confidence levels increased.
They were ready to apply their
minds to put their knowledge to
use.
5. Marked improvement in Maths &
Science is seen.
