How: Student Study GoalsWhat? When? Why?

Pre-survey Early Fall 2014 (before teaching the first lesson)

To establish baseline of engagement in science, understanding of process of science, and interest in project.

Pre-Personal Meaning Map

Early Fall 2014 (same time as pre-survey)

To establish baseline of perception of and identification with scientists.

Post-survey Late April 2015 (after Student Research Symposium)

To determine potential adjustments to engagement in science and understanding of process of science. And to let students share their opinions about the project.

Post-PMM Late April 2015 (same time as post-survey)

To allow students to add, subtract, or adjust PMM to reflect potential adjusted perception of and identification with scientists.

Notes about student evaluation

• You need to assign each student a number (that they use all year).

• Their letter-number code = your letter + their number

• Do not send us any information about which student is assigned which number.

• Please send us pre-surveys in addressed envelope (do not put your name or school on the envelope).

• Hold onto the PMMs for the year. They will need to revisit them during the post-survey in late April.
