    Project 4-6 Answer Sheet

    Recognize Common Performance Improvement Tools

    Student Name:

    Examples of performance improvement tools

    Quantitative Tools

Bar graph Checksheet Control chart Histogram Line graph Pareto chart Scatter diagram Stratification

Qualitative Tools Affinity analysis Brainstorming Cause and effect diagram Flowchart Force field analysis Prioritization tools Workflow diagram

    Project

Step Tool(s) Used (or could have been used) and How it Helped the Team

    Step 1

I think they used and should have used brainstorming, to define what needs to be changed to orderto lower the bleeding rate. I would use force field analysis to determine the forces that hinder lowerbleeding rates, and those that raise them. Cause and effect diagrams would probably help to solidify thebrainstorming and clarify the ideas. Work diagrams could clarify where the gaps occur, and bar graphscan show data gathered over the study period.

    Step 2

To organize the team, high-level flowcharts could be used to determine the stakeholders, but this hasalready been done. To determine their objectives, they could use affinity analysis. I think they already

know why they are there, now they need to find out what they can do to improve the bleeding rate. They could use a check sheet to verify they are collecting the correct data.

    Step 3

To gather information, they could use a survey instrument, and then input the data to get control charts, line charts and a scatter diagram to see what happens when comparing two variables such as the datagathered on 9 FR and the 8FR.

    Step 4

I would use prioritization tools to look at all of the options available after the information came in.Maybe cause and effect diagrams could help them see the pros and cons of each possibility.

    Step 5

A control chart and a line chart would show improvement over the prior bleeding rates, as would ascatter diagram. This is such a dangerous complication for this ever-increasing procedure, I am surethey would want every advantage they have to chart the results of their efforts

Step 6 I would think they would use all of the information they had on hand to rewrite the clinical paths, especially checksheets to verify accuracy.

    Step 7

I would use a control chart to monitor variation in the process that has been implemented. They wouldstill use line charts, bar charts, line charts and scatter diagrams to visually chart the data, but the controlchart is more precise in measuring variations in performance measurement data.
