Progress Report We are committed to doing what is right in Hinkley

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is committed to sharing timely and accurate information about our groundwater remediation and community programs in Hinkley. This is the first in a series of regularly scheduled Progress Reports.

PG&E Installs First Whole House Water Treatment System In April this year, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced a voluntary program to provide whole house replacement water to eligible residents. Since then, we have met with hundreds of eligible residents to discuss the program. The first few individual whole house treatment systems have already been installed and are fully operational.

Technicians monitor ion exchange treatment system housed in a secure storage container

This state-of-the-art water treatment system utilizes ion exchange and reverse osmosis technologies. The systems, tested in Hinkley under local conditions, have proven to safely, effectively and reliably remove chromium 6 from well water to low concentrations.

"The water treatment system essentially decouples residents from the plume," said IRP Manager Ian Webster. "PG&E can continue to move forward on en-vironmental cleanup, while residents can use water in their homes and know it's safe."

The system is comprised of two parts. First, well water is pumped through an ion exchange water treatment system which is located outside the house and has a filter that removes chromium and other impurities

The first-time program was funded by a $38,000 charitable grant from PG&E and is administered by the Career Institute (www.cinow.org), which has an 18-year track record of career training and specializes in working with young adults.
