Together, we are writing the next chapter of Bok Tower Gardens. Projects are underway to preserve and enrich your experience in newand engaging ways, to restore and revitalize the Gardens for future generations. Landscapes are being transformed, but Edward Bok’s vision is cared for and protected.

Finding The Fountain of YouthPonce de León and Florida’s

Magical Waters by Rick KilbyVisitor Center

This exhibit examines how the legend of Ponce de León’s quest for restorative waters shaped the Sunshine State’s image as a land of fantasy, rejuvenation, and magical waters. Rich in images, learn how the myths of “La Florida” influenced perceptions of the state that still echo today.

National Grandparents’ Day

Free admission for grandparents visiting with grandkids. The firstSunday after Labor Day, this holiday was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1978.

Anton brees’ birthday Carillon Concerts

Anton Brees performed at the Gardens until 1967 and left a legacy of contributions to the carillon world. Celebrate the birthday of the Singing Tower’s first carillonneur with recordings of his performances from the 1950s.

Garden Projects Walks & Talks2nd Friday each month 10 a.m.

Gardens staff will provide an overview of our new construction and building projects. During these one-hour programs, get a behind-the-scenes look at the children’s garden, Florida wild garden, outdoor kitchen and more. Sunscreen, bug spray and closed-toed shoes recommended. Florida Wildflower Foundation SymposiumImmerse yourself in a world of

wildflowers! This two-day event features workshops, tours, films, and a Friday evening banquet and keynote presentation by Dr. Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home. Register for one or both days; times and prices may vary. Space is limited; register at flawildflowers.org.

Wildflower DayBok Tower Gardens

declares September 20 as Wildflower Day. To complement the symposium, Garden guests can see films, talk to conservation authors, and enjoy wildflower tours. Included with admission.

Bok Tower Gardens partners with the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame to present an inside look into Florida’s citrus industry through a variety of fun, free programs. Special talks, tours, films and hands-on activities take place throughout the week. Citrus industry experts present historical and horticultural evening talks. A new historical exhibit, Peeled Back: Citrus Culture on the Ridge, will be on display in the Visitor Center.

Culture & Cocktails: Florida Citrus Series

Expert speakers from around Central Florida present fun, educational talks about the culture of the citrus industry. Sip on specialty citrus cocktails, enjoy light fare, and shop old Florida citrus souvenirs. Featured guests will include Jim Ellis, Brenda Eubanks Burnette and Jerry Chicone, Jr. Free admission after 5 p.m.

Florida Citrus DaysCelebrate everything citrus throughout the

weekend. Purchase vintage citrus labels from collectors and view the citrus film, Barrels To Bins. Take a guided citrus grove tour and hear talks from field experts and Gardens staff. See a citrus cooking demonstration, participate in an orange juicing contest, explore fruit & floral arrangements, and meet former Florida Citrus Queens.

Peeled back: Citrus Culture on the RidgeTo mark the 85th anniversary of Bok

Tower Gardens and the 90th anniversary since the first Florida Citrus Queen pageant, a new historical exhibit presents the untold story of how Florida’s citrus culture shaped the economy, lifestyle and landscape of Polk County and Bok Tower Gardens.

Carillon MusicHome of the world- famous Singing Tower, Bok Tower Gardens proudly celebrates the history and music of our 60-bell carillon. This musical instrument was built in 1928 by the Gardens founder, Edward Bok, and his love of carillon music continues today. Carillon concerts are played daily at 1 & 3 p.m., with live concerts by Gardens Carillonneur Geert D’hollander from mid-October through mid-May, Thursdays - Sundays, along with moonlight performances.

Sunset & SymphonyHoliday ConcertGreat Lawn

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Singing Tower carillon capture the spirit of the holidays during one of Central Florida’s favorite outdoor concerts. Families and friends are encouraged to prepare themed picnics and experience a magical evening as the sun sets atop Iron Mountain. Last entry to Pinewood at 5 p.m. Advance tickets: $20/adult; $8/child ages 5-12. Children under 5 admitted free.

Holly Jolly SaturdaysPinewood Estate

Break out those festive holiday sweaters, hats andaccessories to wear to

Edward bok Memorial Carillon ConcertsCommemorate the life

of Pulitzer-Prize-winning author Edward W. Bok who died on January 9, 1930, less than a year after his beloved Singing Tower was dedicated.

A Garden of Plenty by Taylor IkinA true love of nature leaps off TaylorIkin’s synthetic painting surface called YUPO, a tree-free paper that is the basis of her nature-based artwork. Described by critics as heartfelt and empathetic, Taylor’s paintings incorporate the wonder and beauty of the natural world.

The Fairchild ChallengeChanging the way we understand

and live with natureThe Fairchild Challenge is a free, interdisciplinary competition that uses nature as an integrated context for learning. The Challenge is aligned with state curriculum guidelines and is available for both elementary and middle schools.

Teachers can choose from these topics and more—an array of Challenge projects throughout the year to implement in their classrooms. Teachers submit student work for judging, with cash prizes and awards given to top-scoring schools and students at the end of the school year.

Select entries will have the opportunity to be showcased in the Growing Minds exhibit in the Bok Tower Gardens Visitor Center from April 17 - July 16.
