WELCOME FROM THE FESTIVAL CHAIRPERSON

Welcome to the 2015 Somerset Festival for Young Performers.

We are delighted you could join us and thank you for joining us for this amazing weekend. As you will see

and experience, the Festival is more than a competition – it is a celebration of the talents of younger Gold

Coast students. Students here this weekend are prepared and to challenge themselves, to face the fear of

performance. These are students who have committed many hours to their lessons and rehearsals in

preparation for the weekend.

We hope the relaxed atmosphere of the Festival enable students to perform with confidence and enjoyment.

Every great performer has to start somewhere – who knows which students at the 2015 Festival will go on

to much bigger and better things. We certainly hope there are many. Whatever the result this weekend, we

thank each participant for sharing their developing skills and talents and hope they will be left with a sense

of achievement and pride in their hard work and effort.

Our adjudicators play a vital role in ensuring the Festival operates smoothly. We are indebted to them for

assisting so graciously and thank them for all of their efforts. An event such as this does not just happen,

many hours of planning and preparation are involved. On behalf of all participants and their families our

sincere thanks go to the Festival Programme Director, Mrs Helen Little and her band of helpers, especially

the Somerset College Events Team, for their hard work, the speech and drama teachers and the music

teachers of Gold Coast schools for their support.

Similarly I thank all members of the organising committee who have worked to ensure the smooth running

of the Festival again this year. I extend to the many volunteers who have contributed to make the Festival a

success, my sincere thanks.

To our participants, simply enjoy the experience!
