MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
A management information system (MIS) provides information that organizations need to
manage themselves efficiently and effectively. Management information systems are not only
computer systems. These systems encompass three primary components: technology, people
(individuals, groups, or organizations), and data (information for decision making). Management
information systems are distinct from other information systems, in that they are used to analyze
and facilitate strategic and operational activities. Academically, the term is commonly used to
refer to the study of how individuals, groups, and organizations evaluate, design, implement,
manage, and utilize systems to generate information to improve efficiency and effectiveness of
decision making, including systems termed decision support systems, expert systems, and
executive information systems. Most business schools (or colleges of business administration
within universities) have an MIS department, alongside departments of accounting, finance,
management, marketing, and sometimes others, and grant degrees (at undergrad, masters, and
PhD levels) in MIS.
TYPES OF MIS
Most management information systems specialize in particular commercial and industrial
sectors, aspects of the enterprise, or management substructure.
Management information systems (M IS), produce fixed, regularly scheduled
reports based on data extracted and summarized from the firms underlying transaction
processing systems to middle and operational level managers to identify and inform
structured and semi-structured decision problems.

Decision suppor t systems (DSS)are computer program applications used by middle
management to compile information from a wide range of sources to support problem
solving and decision making.
Executive information systems (EIS)is a reporting tool that provides quick accessto summarized reports coming from all company levels and departments such as
accounting, human resources and operations.
Marketing information systems are MIS designed specifically for managing the
marketing aspects of the business.
Off ice automation systems (OAS)support communication and productivity in the
enterprise by automating work flow and eliminating bottlenecks. OAS may be
implemented at any and all levels of management.
School management inf ormation systems (MIS) cover school administration,
and often including teaching and learning materials.
ADVANTAGES OF MIS
The following are some of the benefits that can be attained for different types of management
information systems.
Companies are able to highlight their strengths and weaknesses due to the presence of
revenue reports, employees' performance record etc. The identification of these aspects
can help the company improve their business processes and operations.
Giving an overall picture of the company and acting as a communication and planning
tool.
The availability of the customer data and feedback can help the company to align their
business processes according to the needs of the customers. The effective management of
customer data can help the company to perform direct marketing and promotion
activities.
Information is an important asset for any company in the modern competitive world. The
consumer buying trends and behaviours can be predicted by the analysis of sales and
revenue reports from each operating region of the company.

Company History - Nitco Ltd
The NITCO Group came into existence in the year 1956 with the formation of a partnership firm
at Delhi under the name of The Northern India Tiles Corporation (Delhi) for manufacturing
mosaic tiles. The partners of this firm were Mr. A.N. Talwar (HUF), Mr. P.N. Talwar and Mr. W.
N. Talwar.
In the year 1964, another partnership firm was formed under the name of The Northern India
Tiles Corporation (Bombay), with Mr.A.N.Talwar, Mr. P.N.Talwar, Mr.W.N.Talwar, and others as
partners to manufacture mosaic tiles at Thane, Mumbai, wherein by an agreement, a license
was granted by The Northern India Tiles Corporation (Delhi) to use the brand "NITCO".
NITCO Group is engaged in segments relating to construction industry, which includes building
products, manufacturing tiles, paints and other construction activities. Our Company is the
flagship company of the group. Mr. Vivek Talwar and Ms. PoonamTalwar, son and daughter of
Mr. PranNathTalwar respectively, joined the Nitco Group and are now in charge of the
management of our Company as well as our group companies.
Our Company
Nitco Tiles Private Limited was incorporated on July 25, 1966 at Delhi to take over the business
of manufacturing and marketing of tiles from The Northern India Tiles Corporation (Bombay).
On May 11, 1973, the registered office of the Company was shifted from the Union Territory of
Delhi to the State of Maharashtra vide order of the High Court at Delhi. Subsequently, our

company was converted into a public limited company with effect from January 25, 1996.
Pursuant to this, the name of our Company changed to Nitco Tiles Limited.
Pursuant to the takeover of the business of the partnership firm, our Company started to
manufacture mosaic and terrazzo tiles at Thane, Maharashtra. In 1984, we started our
operation at Kanjurmarg, Mumbai for processing and distribution of imported marble in India.
Growing further, in 1995, we began the implementation of a green field project for
manufacture of ceramic floor tiles at Alibaug, Maharashtra and started the commercial
production of ceramic tiles in 1997. In 2002, we started one more marble processing unit at
Slivassa.
In 2004, we scaled up operations of outsourcing vitrified tiles from China. Currently, our
product portfolio comprises of ceramic tiles, vitrified/wall tiles, cement terrazzo tiles, pavers
and marbles etc.
In 1995, our Company commenced to set up a project for the manufacture of ceramic tiles at
Alibaug in Maharashtra. The project cost was appraised by ICICI at Rs. 812 mn. The cost of
setting up the project was proposed to be financed through a mix of debt of Rs. 451 mn,
promoters contribution of Rs. 222 mn and public issue of equity shares of Rs. 139 mn. for
which our Company received the SEBI acknowledgment card in February 1997. However, we
decided not to proceed ahead with the public issue due to bad market conditions. We
successfully completed the project in 1997 with a delay of ten months and cost overrun to the
extent of Rs. 80 mn.

MANUFATURING SETUP
TILES
What separates Nitco from other Indian tile manufacturers, is that we have always invested in the
best available technology. Our machinery is state of the art, and our factory operations are almost
fully automated.
We have an eye for beauty and are on a continuous quest for perfection. We therefore ensure that
only those tiles, which match our highest standards, are given the Nitco brand label, an assurance
for quality.
Located in Alibaug, near Mumbai, it is here where the company manufactures an endless variety
of world-class tiles for low traffic, medium traffic and high traffic areas. This high-tech plant has
enabled Nitco to become India's first tile company to offer international standards in the
manufacturing of tiles. From beginning to end, only the best will do. The high standard of our
laboratory, for instance, is envied by other tile manufacturers for its through and through
systematic work. Every aspect of our tiles is measured at our very own laboratory, from the tiles
water absorption to its strength. Even our raw materials are constantly tested to ensure that their
properties will be worthy of only the best, Nitco tiles.

these materials include; Italy, Spain,

Here, at Kanjur Marg, various procedures take place,
including the preparation (polishing and waxing) of the
marble, as well the creation of our Intarsia series, which
inspire anyone who sets their eyes on them. With the
use of a Water Jet Cutting Machine, we are able to
transform marble slabs into the most unfathomable designs, beautiful beyond imagination. This

They are currently in the process of building a new
and fantastic showroom, which customers will
be able to walk through and chose their marble
according to their taste. The showroom will include
setups of various rooms within a home, to enable the customer
to define more clearly his/her own vision of his/her home setup.
Mosaico
Also based in Kanjur Marg, Mumbai, their mosaico
