ISSUE 122 MAY 2017

Welcome to our Activity Guide!

Dirigo Potpourri

Dirigo Pines is Going Green!

We are happy to report that Dirigo Pines is going green

and taking steps to become more environmentally friendly.

We already have some processes in place, such as Zero Sort

Recycling, and encourage everyone on campus to take part

in this easy recycling process.

The Go Green Committee has been working very hard

to come up with new ideas to make Dirigo Pines a more en-

vironmentally friendly campus. We are currently looking in

to ordering reusable coffee mugs for the coffee stations.

Each resident will receive a mug which will reduce

Styrofoam cup waste. We are also looking into natural

cleaning products from Ecolab. This spring and summer we

hope to start composting food waste to use in resident raised

garden beds.

Please be on the lookout for a sheet explaining Zero

Sort Recycling as well as our “Let’s Get Greener” tip of the

month. If you have any ideas on how to make Dirigo Pines

a greener community, or would like to help implement some

of our ideas, please join us for the next Go Green Commit-

tee meeting.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe

The Hitchhiker’s Guide the Universe is and

incredible visual tour of the size and scale of

our cosmos! Join planetarium manag-

er Shawn Laatsch as he host the evening

presentation and “flies” participants out into

space on a unique and engaging tour through

the Universe. Audience members will travel

to our local planets and their moon systems,

zip through the rings of Saturn, and explore

the asteroids. We will visit other star sys-

tems, explore nebulae and go far beyond to

star clusters and other areas of our Milky

Way galaxy. Traveling beyond the Milky

Way, the journey will continue into inter ga-

lactic space exploring our local group of gal-

axies, the Virgo cluster of galaxies, and to

the farthest edge of the Universe. Feel as if

you are “jumping off the Earth” as you voy-

age through time and space! Cost is $5.00.

Bus leaves at 6:30 pm on Friday, May 26th.
