NATIONAL STRATEGIC IMPERATIVES

Change happens each and every day

of our lives, be it being a forced

change for a sick man who is told

by his doctor to stop smoking

because his lung cancer is

spreading rapidly or change due to

time, seeing the need to bring in

new changes.

Page 3: Professional studies 3a

EDUCATION SYSTEM

Education is also a system that changes from time

to time because there is a gap and the new change

aims to closing that gap. Ms GNM Pandor once said in

a forwarded speech in the white paper on e-

Education “Information and communication

technologies (ICTs) are central to the changes taking

place all over the world”. Changes are not only

happening in South Africa alone there are also taking

place in other countries or they have already taken

place.

Page 4: Professional studies 3a

THESE CHANGES NEED MONEY AND TIME IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE IMPLEMENTED SUCCESSFULLY. BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER INTO THIS MATTER LET US FIRST UNDERSTAND THE STRAT PLAN 2011 TO 2014 ITS VISION, MISSION AND ITS VALUES.

VISION

Vision: Our vision is of a South Africa in which all our

people will have access to lifelong learning, education and

training opportunities which will, in turn contribute

towards improving the quality of life and the building of a

peaceful, prosperous and democratic South Africa.

(Department of Basic Education, 8).

The vision in short is a picture of where they see South

Africa as whole through education fixing the inequalities

to produce a quality education that will satisfies all

Page 7: Professional studies 3a

MISSION

The Mission is working together with provinces;

our mission is to provide relevant and cutting edge

quality education for the 21st century.

South Africa as a country has nine beautiful

provinces and each of these provinces produce

educational results these results are then mostly

used to check where the other province lacked and

how this province needs to improve.

Page 8: Professional studies 3a

KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY AGENDA

According to Prof Bernard CORNU

who defines knowledge society as a

human society were knowledge should

bring about justice, solidarity,

democracy and peace and also a society

were knowledge should be a force to

change.

Page 13: Professional studies 3a

KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY AGENDA

Educators all over South Africa have a

major role to play in the transformation

of education and education being the key

issue in the knowledge society ( IFIP,

Stellenbosch, South Africa, July 2005)

Page 14: Professional studies 3a

KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY AGENDA

Every learner in the knowledge society is a life long learner,

content and methods of initial education must be prepared or

its preparation should be for a life long learning

Life long learning development must be encouraged in all

countries as a tool to reduce digital divide and its development

needs an integration of education into the real world .

In a knowledge society networking id important as it offers

many ways to access knowledge in networks in education.

Page 15: Professional studies 3a

KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY AGENDA

As a teacher in a knowledge society you are required new

specific competencies, as a teacher you should deal with new

knowledge , new ways of accessing knowledge as things change

due to time and era that we live in.

Teachers are well known to be the key agents of the education

system, we want a knowledge society more then an information

society which will allow all children and people to access

knowledge and however also benefit from being educated .

PERVASIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY

In the South African alone the notion of e-

Education is set to revolve around the use of ICTs

to accelerate the achievement of national education

goals.

e-Education is about the connection of teachers

and learners to one another and to support services

and also providing platforms for learning.

Page 17: Professional studies 3a
Page 18: Professional studies 3a

PERVASIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY

e-Education connects teachers and learners to

better information via effective combinations of

pedagogy and technology

e-Education does not simply mean computer

literacy and learning about ways to operate other

types of information or technologies.

Its all about ones personal ability to apply ICT

skills to access, analyse, evaluate, integrate, present

and communicate information

Page 19: Professional studies 3a

PERVASIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY

One challenge that’s faces the education system or

department is that there is not enough resources in some of

the provinces to purchase computers and other technological

tools needed for learning activities to take place.

A recent scenario that took place was in Limpopo when

textbooks for learners were expected to be there before

school opened but arrived after quite some time when other

schools had began with their academic work.

Page 20: Professional studies 3a

PERVASIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY

This scenario is an example that some where in other places of

the country some people do not have access to basic this such

as a textbook and we expect them to move that to a computer.

In schools like in the Eastern Cape were have no proper

classroom no qualified teachers to teach, where are they

suppose to obtain money for computers and teachers to teach

them theses are some of the problems that need to be looked

into before introducing new methods of learning and teaching

Page 21: Professional studies 3a

PERVASIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY

The use of technology within schools children has grown

over the years through the introduction of internet access

phones they can search an explain things or concepts that a

teacher ahs not taught them in class yet

The Department of Education believes that ICTs creates

access to learning opportunities, redress inequalities,

improve the quality of learning and teaching.

Page 22: Professional studies 3a

PERVASIVENESS OF TECHNOLOGY

The use of technology in the education system is for addressing

past educational inequalities that were caused by apartheid that

denied equal educational experiences

ICTs also plays a huge role in the transformation of teaching and

the training of teachers, the use of computers and other

supporting information and knowledge education schemes will

help in changing the view of education as the same old textbook

and desk picture but into a more hands on experience for learner

and teacher

Page 23: Professional studies 3a

EDUCATION FOR ALL

Page 24: Professional studies 3a

EDUCATION FOR ALL

Education is an essential asset in the lives of all humans all over

understanding of our educational experiences.

EDUCATION FOR ALL

Since the end of apartheid we have moved from

educations policies more then once first was the

introduction of OBE, NCS and now most recently

CAPS document these are introduced because the

Department finds a gap that needs to filled and

through these policies they try and fix the gaps.

Page 26: Professional studies 3a

Page 28: Professional studies 3a

EDUCATION FOR ALL

Inequalities that are produced by poverty,

not having the correct documentation such

a birth and not having schools that are near

by are some of the challenges that face

South Africans and the education system

Page 29: Professional studies 3a

EDUCATION FOR ALL

The issue of us not all having the

same privileges has come to a stop

because we can now all attend the

school of our choice and have the same

education black or white
