GUESS was founded byGeorges, Armand, Paul, and Maurice

Marciano. The four brothers wereborn in Ouarzazate, Morocco but

reportedly grew up in the south ofFrance and were influenced by the

culture and style in the region. Theymoved to California in 1977 and

founded the company in 1981. Theirfirst product was a 3-zipper style of

jeans they named "Marilyn" (Style#1015). Depament stores and fashion

critics were initially reluctant to carrythe new 'stone washed denim' jeans,but it was Bloomingdale's who finally

agreed with Georges as a favor to the brothers to stock two dozen pairsof the new jeans that sold out quickly.

GUESS is about sexy, adventurous, trendsetting apparel and

accessories. All-American looks witha uniquely European attention to detail.
