The ExaSAN B08S2-PS provides a

compact storage solution that can

be easily transported for field work

and packs a powerful punch when it

comes to performance. The B08S2-PS

can support eight 2.5” SSD or

SAS/SATA hard drives with a total

weight of no more than 5 kg (11

pounds). Unlike other small form

storage, the B08S2-PS takes full

advantage of PCI express protocol throughout the storage path. The 20Gb

PCIe2.0, unlike other interfaces that need time for protocol translating,

eliminates the delays of conversion and reaches 1300 MB/s read and 1100

MB/s write under RAID 5.

ExaSAN A12S2-PS offers high performance, availability and scalability. It features

PCI Express 2.0 technology capable of reaching read speeds in excess of 1200

MB/s with only twelve drives and can easily handle HD (multiple streams), 2K,

dual stereoscopic 3D, 4K and DPX formats. Running 20Gb/sec bandwidth

without protocol conversion, the A12S2-PS storage system makes high speed

shared post-production workflows more affordable than current Fibre Channel

solutions.

The first PCIe3.0 desktop model of the ExaSAN

family, this 8-bay RAID system will support 3.5"

(4TB and above) SAS and SATA drives. It retains the

style and professional design of its predecessor

but has had a major upgrade to its central core. It

now uses PCIe3.0 technology with throughput of

up to 1200MB/s. Expansion is easy – double up

performance with a dual port 3.0 HBA card!

3 levels of Simple SANSolutionA storage area network, or SAN, is a high-speed network

of storage devices connecting to a server or switch to

share its contents with multiple users in a high speed

and secure manner. In a professional workgroup

environment, storage devices + switch + SAN software

are the key ingredients in creating a simple yet effective

way to share your data. This is categorized below in “3

levels of simple SAN “.

ExaSAN is unique in that it has its own Storage, Switch

and SAN software. With all three aspects combined,

we can create what we consider as the ExaSAN’s SAN.

Starting with level 1, the SAN requires the following

setup : Storage ( A12S2 ) + Switch ( *SWF16 V2 ) + SAN

software ( SANit 2 ).

From a SAN environment point of view, you can have

up to 12 clients share file uploads and downloads

simultaneously in a volume based SAN system. This is

your typical SAN environment. Expansion will be

limited.

An enhancement to Level 1 SAN, Level 2 SAN

expands client connectivity. It consists of additional

storage (A12S2) direct attached to the local client for

backup and high bandwidth access. All files

gathered from the main storage will be stored

locally secure for faster processing.

Dual port NT re-drive card.

With the hybrid function of the HBA card, you can

now connect both the SAN network and local DAS

storage with one card. Use one connector from this

dual port Z2M HBA card for connecting to a

A08S3-PS or any other ExaSAN PCIe2.0 storage

device, and the other to a SWF16 V2 or any other

ExaSAN PCIe2.0 switch. You can then immediately

copy footage from your shared storage to the local

DAS and back again at exceptional speed.

Level 3 consists of the entire configuration as we

showed in previous levels but with an additional

sector for backup. We dedicate one client to act as a

backup solution to the online SAN one A12S2 and a

maximum of 3 JBODs attached.

Case StudyUpgrading to a Multiple Workstation Editing Work�ow.

ExaSAN SWF16 V2 is the PCIe2.0 switch with additional

advance stability feature. With 16 ports, it allows up to 12

clients to share over 700 terabytes of storage for efficient,

productive, and collaborative workflow. 4 ports are

allocated for ExaSAN storage systems, for instance the 2U, 12bay, A12S2-PS

and JBODs. SWF16 V2 provides 20Gb/s of bandwidth to each client, and

20Gb/s to each storage port through the 20Gb/s QFSP connections. The

maximum capacity that can be shared by the 12 clients is 768TB using 4TB

HDDs, making it the largest PCIe2.0 based SAN available.

the need for greater expansion than

A digital intermediate service company would like to design a network

including a Linux workstation ingest video from film scanner, one Windows

for editing, and a Windows server for playout. We suggested adding

A12S2-PS to each host as local DAS, to ensure all the clients have enough

work space to process the DI works.

The Linux machine ingests DPX files from the scanner and direct the raw

images to the DAS volume to compose the loose files to a clip. Then, upload

to the SAN volume to share to the other two seats. The second one

downloads the clips to the local DAS to edit and do video daily for the client.

On the DAS, this seat can own an independent workspace to edit compose

and grading the video, and be capable to create private storage space to

show the daily to client. The Windows server backup the edited clips to its

DAS system with Archiware P5 Backup and send the finished video work out

to external network.
