Product Manufacture

The factors responsible for product delays include, lack of access to prototyping

equipment and testing processes, at Liensy labs, we do all this under one roof, 70-80% of

the production process is presently done in-house, reducing the cost of bringing your

product to market. with specialized engineers who focus on each segment of the

production process. We ensure we carry you along (customer) in the design and

development stage focusing on your needs much more than any other thing, you are an

integral part of the manufacturing process. With Liensy device manufacturing just got

easy. All at flexible costs to suit your needs

Solution for the Energy Industry

Stage #1 – Customers’ Requirements

It all starts with a single problem. A customer comes to us with an issue where an

ideal solution does not already exist. Perhaps there is in fact a solution, but there are

several flaws or defects that are just accepted and worked around. As long as you the

customer is motivated to solve the problem, there is typically enough of a spark to kick

off the next stage of the product development process.

At LIENSY, we spend a lot of time in advance of the project talking to you our

customer to truly understand your need. This information is collected and discussed

during multiple brainstorming sessions to figure out how we can do things strategically

and differently and determine any other value points we can provide. It is imperative

Page 5: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS PROTOTYPING …liensy.com/assets/documents/services.pdf · PCB design and development Embedded System design Test Cycles Design for manufacturing (DFM)

that we be cautious that in solving one problem, we are not creating others. Building the

best all-around product that provides the most value for you the client.

Stage #2 – Product Conception (Research)

When designing a new product, it is quite common that one or more core

components will involve technology that is emerging or is new to the company. At LIENSY

Inc, before moving ahead with development, it is important to have a thorough

understanding of these technologies. Typically, reference designs are reviewed,

development kits are used for POC and the technology is validated well before

incorporating it into a product.

Design and Development

At LIENSY Inc, design encompasses a number of different engineering disciplines.

Typically, we are involved in hardware, firmware, mechanical and software engineering.

Each of these disciplines have their own challenges and processes, but nothing we can’t

handle, which are described at a high level below.

Hardware Engineering

Hardware engineering starts with identifying a collection of key components that

are required to form the platform at the center of the design. Supporting components

are selected, and together a schematic is created that shows the connections between

all components. Once the design has been created and reviewed by several team

members, layout is performed. This step involves taking the footprints of the physical

Page 7: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS PROTOTYPING …liensy.com/assets/documents/services.pdf · PCB design and development Embedded System design Test Cycles Design for manufacturing (DFM)

components as well as the connections and arranging them on a virtual circuit board.

Block diagram of the hardware connections is designed and passed through quality

control as shown below in some of our previous designs for customers.

Mechanical Engineering

Once the hardware has been designed, with input and information from you the

customer about the product our mechanical engineers will design an enclosure and

correlating brackets to ensure that the product is functional, rugged, aesthetically

attractive and reliable and can withstand various environmental elements. Other factors

that go into the design account for mounting, accessibility, ease of service and

manufacturability.

Firmware Engineering

Embedded firmware is software/code that is written to run on a hardware

platform. This would be equivalent to the software running inside your DVD player or

microwave. The software is fully designed ahead of time to ensure that all of the devices

are properly supported and that the feature set required by the user is delivered. Once

the design is in place, it will be broken up into several components that can be written

individually by several members of this team.

Software Engineering

In most cases, a physical electronic product requires software tools that run on a

PC. They are used to program the device or interact with it when in a given mode.

Prototyping

Once each portion of the design is complete, it will typically be prototyped. For

hardware engineering, this means getting the circuit board printed and soldering on

components. For mechanical engineering, enclosures are produced. Some designs will

have enclosures that are punched, bent, and welded at a machine shop, while others

will eventually require a mold to be 3-D printed at this stage. Firmware can be compiled

and run “off target.” This means running a simulator on a PC instead of on the actual

hardware.

Testing

Testing is one of the most critical stages in product development. What good is a

product if it does not function as designed? The next few stages of the product

development process get increasingly expensive and time consuming, so LIENSY Inc

ensures catching problems early to save time and money for our customer in the long

run. Even though testing is identified at this point in our product development cycle, there

is also development testing, field testing, production testing and regression testing that

happens throughout development. We ensure that testing occurs during virtually every

stage of development to make sure the final product is of the highest quality, is user-

friendly and functions reliably.

Certification

At LIENSY Inc we take note of meeting certification requirements for all products

that pass through our lab. Even though this stage happens near the end of the product

development process, many considerations are incorporated into the design early on to

ensure that it will pass certification. We don’t assume anything, as safety and compliance

with international standards is our goal. Therefore, we have an engineering team with

specialized knowledge and experience in building hazardous locations electronics.

Field Trial

Prior to this step we carry out simulation models of all parts of the design and

development using some of the best simulation tools available that test real world

scenarios. Once the product has been certified, it can safely be installed in the field for

Page 12: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS PROTOTYPING …liensy.com/assets/documents/services.pdf · PCB design and development Embedded System design Test Cycles Design for manufacturing (DFM)

LIENSY

you the customer. Even though this is the first time the product will be installed, we have

simulated conditions such as extreme temperatures earlier on in the testing cycle. By the

time we have moved into this phase, we are confident that the product will perform. This

phase of testing will help identify situations that were not considered and will put the

product in user’s hands for the first time.

Production

At this stage, we are finally ready to mass produce the product, but there is still a lot

of work to do. We work on supply chain to ensure that parts are readily available, circuit

boards are arranged into panels so that any number of units can be produced at once,

machines are programmed, and test setups and procedures are designed and built.

Once those things are established, manufacturing runs are scheduled and executed.

Maintenance

Once a product is into full production and being used by customers, it has to be

maintained. We support all our customers in providing unlimited support and

maintenance. Because we spend detailed time in design n development, maintaining

our customer’s products is easy to address properly designed and maintained device will

have updates published on occasion that fix these issues or add new features.

Solution for the Robotics Industry

Platform 3 – Circuit and Schematic Design

Our manufacturing process includes the design of the schematic diagrams. The

end goal of the electronics design is the creation of a Printed Circuit Board (PCB). The first

step we employ in making a new PCB is the creation of the schematic circuit design. A

schematic is similar to a blueprint for a house. Designing the schematic circuit first includes

early research to select the best topology and most affordable components.

Page 14: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS PROTOTYPING …liensy.com/assets/documents/services.pdf · PCB design and development Embedded System design Test Cycles Design for manufacturing (DFM)

LIENSY

www.liensy.com

It may also include running simulations and/or bread-boarding (used only rarely in

modern electronics). We design the electronics in-house; we utilize some of the best

industry based software in our electronics circuit design.

Stage #4 – Design the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Layout

Using the same software package as in stage #3, the designer now creates the

PCB layout. A portion may be automatically routed but most boards require manual

routing for optimum performance.

LIENSY

At LIENSY Inc our PCB design protocols is well detailed, When the PCB layout is

complete the design software will tell the designer if the PCB matches the schematic. It

will also check wire widths, trace spacing’s, etc. to ensure the layout meets all of the rules

for the particular PCB fabrication process being used. Before beginning the PCB layout.

We have PCB manufacturing partners who we work with and are very reliable and on

time in deliveries.

Stage #5 – Evaluate and Debug the Prototype

Once the first prototype comes back it will now need to be evaluated and if any

problems are found, those will need to be debugged.

Page 17: PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS PROTOTYPING …liensy.com/assets/documents/services.pdf · PCB design and development Embedded System design Test Cycles Design for manufacturing (DFM)

LIENSY

www.liensy.com

Hopefully there are no problems, but that’s extremely rare, and there are almost always

at least a couple of issues.

Stage #6 – Program the Microcontroller

Almost all electronics products today have some kind of microcontroller that acts

as the brains for the product. These are almost always programmed in a computer

language called “C”. At LIENSY Inc we employ the most suitable and robust language

for the solution to be developed.

Stage #7 – 3D Modeling

Some parts needing modelling such as tooling and enclosure fabrication are done

using latest technology. We employ design engineers to ensure the enclosure meets

functional and aesthetic requirements of you the customer in compliance with

international standards.

Stage #8 – Evaluating, Debugging and Revising the Design

Business Aspects

Utilizing basic internal and external SWOT analyses, as well as current marketing

trends, one can distance themselves from the competition by employing concurrent

engineering techniques, generating ideologies which take affordability, ROI, and

widespread distribution costs into account.

At LIENSY Inc the lean, mean and scalable are the key points we keep in mind.

employing the NPD process, keeping the system nimble and use flexible discretion over

which activities are executed. You may want to develop multiple versions of your road

map scaled to suit different types and risk levels of projects.

Step 4: Business Analytics

During the New Product Development process, build a system of metrics to monitor

progress. Include input metrics, such as average time in each stage, as well as output

metrics that measure the value of launched products, percentage of new product sales

and other figures that provide valuable feedback. It is important for an organization to

be in agreement for these criteria and metrics.
