Overview:To help design groups overcome these challenges, PTC developed

Pro/COLLABORATE, a service that fuels the exchange of Pro/ENGINEER designinformation in a compartmentalized, online workspace. Pro/COLLABORATE supportsthe delivery of innovative products by streamlining the synthesis of ideas from allmembers in the product design chain.

This Net-native collaboration service allows geographically dispersed colleaguesto collaborate across firewalls, with suppliers, manufacturers, and customers.

***Please note that we begin this tutorial w/ the assumption that you have a PTCAccount User Name and password because of your current maintenance. If you donot have an account yet, w/ your customer and configuration id number, pleasenavigate to http://www.ptc.com/common/account/customer.htm and follow the on-screen instructions to sign-up.

Let’s get started by navigating to the Pro/COLLABORATE web sitehttp://www.procollaborate.com and login w/ your User Name and password.

Your workspace will look similar to this upon login.

Download and install software for the lightweight viewer and the Pro/ENGINEER CADmanagement tool by selecting “Software” from the top right corner. ***Note: There canonly be a single ProductView Installation. It is not necessary to install thelightweight viewer if you have an existing installation of ProductView.***

a) Download the ProjectLink Visualization software to a temporary directory and theninstall.

b) Specify the installation locations for the CAD Adapter software components. This isonly done at the seats of Pro/ENGINEER that will be used for uploadingPro/ENGINEER data to the Net portal of Pro/COLLABORATE.

Select ProjectLink Visualization.

After the ProductView.exe file is downloaded you may need to double-click on the file toexecute it. This will complete the installation of the ProductView plug-in.

To install the Pro/ENGINEER CAD Adapter select “Pro/ENGINEER CAD Adapter”from the software download page.

After being prompted for language and Pro/ENGINEER version preferences, you shouldsee the following message:

To confirm the installation of the CAD Adapter, you may start up a Pro/ENGINEERsession and see the following message & pull-down menu:

This concludes the software preliminary set-up for Pro/COLLABORATE.

At your workspace screen …

Step 1: Create a new project. (This capability is only provided to maintenance payingPro/ENGINEER customers)

a) Menu Picks: Create Projectb) The Create Project Wizard will appear to guide you through the initial steps.

Please enter a Project name and select either a Basic or Design template (pleaseselect Design for this exercise). You may also enter a Description. Then hitNext>

Step 2: Invite other team members.

You may add/remove roles based on your current project status and requirements.

a) Menu Picks: Select Add Users beside the role that you wish to assign peopleto.

b) You may “Search Your Organization for Users”, “Add a User From TheTeam” or “Add a User by E-mail Address”. Please do not forget to hit Add>>once you have entered/highlighted the name.

c) Select OK once completed adding users to the particular role. Repeatprocedure to add users to other roles.

d) Select OK once you have defined all the members and roles.

Step 3: Create some project folders.a) Menu Picks: Pick on the name of the project you just created.

All the default folders appear from the pre-defined template. By placing a checkin the box beside the object on the left hand-side allows you to perform the followingactions on your selected item: Cut, Copy, Paste or Delete.

b) Menu Picks: Choose a folder and select from the pull-down menu CreateFolder

c) Enter a Folder name and define the Access Control for each of the roles.

d) Select OK once you have finished the folder definition.

***Note: By selecting the Create Folder or the Create Document icons, they will becreated, not within one of your folders, but at the top-level folder structure i.e. whatyou see on the screen. ***

Step 4: Check in data from a Pro/ENGINEER session.a) Menu Picks: FILE, OPEN, CONNECTING_ROD.ASM, & then OK to

accept the Master Rep.

b) Menu Picks: Pro/COLLABORATE, Checkin. You will begin to upload yourPro/ENGINEER information.

c) You will then be asked to authenticate to validate access to the secure serversince Pro/COLLABORATE requires user authentication and uses HTTP as acommunications protocol.

d) Select the correct project where these files belong.

e) Menu Pick: Browse for the folder path where you wish to upload the files to.

f) Menu Pick: Select OK twice, once for defining the folder directory, & theother to begin the Check-In of the files.

g) Once completed you will receive the following confirmation message:

h) Go back to your workspace to see the data uploaded to your Project folder.You may select Project at the top of your workspace to see the contents ofyour folder.

Step 5: Create documents and submit to Pro/COLLABORATE.

a) Menu Picks: CREATE DOCUMENT from the pull-down menu list beside thefolder you wish to create the document in.

b) From the Create Document dialogue box, first you must Browse… for thedocument you wish to upload & notice the name will automatically be takenfrom the original file.

c) Select Type from the pull-down list. For this example, select Report.d) Enter a Description if so desired.

e) You can hit OK at this point if you have finished defining the file properties.However, for this example let’s continue on and set some appropriate securityrules on this document by selecting Next >.

f) Notice, by default, all the access control settings are based off of the foldersettings. Select OK once you have finished here.

Step 6: Create a discussion forum.a) Menu Picks: FORUM

b) Select Create Topic to enter the subject of discussion.

You may also automatically receive any postings to this topic if you check-off Subscribe.Hit OK when you are finished.

c) Let’s post a message in the Material Forum by selecting the Create postingicon.

d) Enter a subject and message. Also check-off Subscribe to posting so thatwhen attachments are also added and changes are made to them,Pro/COLLABORATE will notify you and allow you to view the updates.

e) Let’s now add an attachment by selecting hitting Next > or Add Attachments.Browse for the file to upload and hit either Next > to add add’tl links andURLs or OK if you are finished. For our exercise hit OK.

Step 7: Schedule a meeting.a) Menu Picks: Meeting Center

b) Let’s go ahead and Create Meeting to schedule a meeting.

c) Let’s include agenda details by hitting Next > or Agenda.

d) Determine who shall participate in this meeting by hitting Next > orParticipants.

e) Select from the pull-down menu Users or Groups. Once selected hit Retrieveto list all the members. Then simply highlight and Add>> to the list ofparticipants for this meeting. If you wish to add any attachments select Next> or Subject Items.

f) Here you can attach any documents or designs that will be reviewed duringthe meeting. Everyone that has been invited to the meeting will receive an e-mail invitation w/ links to all of the information they need to review prior tothe meeting. If you wish to add the conference call details such as the dial-innumber, select Next > or Connection Information.

Notice how Pro/COLLABORATE eliminates the need to create multiple copies of theinformation to mail out and ftp to your suppliers and customers. It also eliminatesproblems w/ duplicate or out-of-date information.

b) Simply select Start from the pull-down menu list beside you project you wishto begin. Notice the State of your project has changed to Running.

Customer Number: Each PTC customer has a unique number identifyingthe company from other customers.

Configuration ID Number: An identification number that is unique for theconfiguration of modules/technology for activation at your companylocation.

Discussion Forum: provides an open dialog between the team members onany variety of issues and allows you to collaborate additional informationto these team members.

Project Name: Specifies the name of the project. This field is required.Enter up to 200 characters. This name must be unique w/in yourorganization.

Project Template: Specifies the project template. This field is required.The templates provided w/ Pro/COLLABORATE are described below andhave pre-defined folder structures and team roles.

Basic: Folders: Designs, General, SpecificationsTeam Roles: Project Manager & Members.

Design: Folders: Contracts, Designs, General, Plans, Prototypes,References, Reports, Requirements, Specifications,StandardsTeam Roles: Project Manager, Designer, Members,

Observer & Reviewer.

Roles/Members: specifically defines what a user is able to do with aspecific folder/object. Some examples include designer, observer, projectmanager and reviewer.

Subscribe: Automatic notification of any postings to the topic specified.

Visualization Services: A Pro/COLLABORATE service, transparent to users,that converts Pro/ENGINEER data into a neutral file format--a processreferred to as publishing.

Windchill: invigorates product development and slashes time to market.These industry leading collaborative product commerce (CPC) solutionsare based on a unique Web architecture that provides a robust,collaborative environment that connects engineers, suppliers, customersand manufacturers.

Workspace: your primary window for Pro/COLLABORATE and enables youto view and modify objects in a local work area. This is where all usersmanage their work.
